Got invited over to a neighbor's house last Saturday for a game.
$20 Buy-in, to get $100 worth of chips. 9 players, with blinds starting at $1/2, and going up ever half-hour (2/4, 3/6, 5/10)...
It's played like a Single Table Winner-take-all Tourney, but they have a max bet at all times, that increases whenever the blinds go up. Starting at $20, going up to $25, $30, $40, $50...
I'm used to playing NL STT, both online and at home games, playing with new people wasn't properly prepared for this variation. Most everybody seemed quite aggressive during almost all rounds of betting. It was also VERY difficult to push anybody out of a pot except with an early raise preflop.
What's the best move here? Early on I just played premium cards and waited to hit big. I didn't really get much, so I started taking some chances later, and hit some lucky draws ended up splitting with another guy. I'm pretty sure everybody there thought I was a complete fish, (semi-drunk, blunt bunch). One of them mentioned he played at Ultimate Bet, and, early on, several of them pegged me for a "mouse", which I'm guessing that a couple have read Hellmuth's book... (?) Everybody was talking like they played a lot of poker, but with the different format and 8 new faces, it was difficult for me to get good reads on everybody.
I'd be very thankful for any tips you might have on this funky format.

sounds like this is basically a spread limit game in a tourney format. not totally unlike pot limit. i believe suited connectors go way up in value in this type of game.

It's somewhat similar to Pot Limit (which I will brush up on before playing again), but that max bet/raise is FAR lower than what is usually in the pot.
It's VERY interesting that you mention suited connectors, because on one particular hand somebody flipped over T9clubs before mucking preflop in the cutoff to a $2 raise (blinds $.1/$.2) with no other callers up to that point. He was blasted by several players at the table. This was early on in the game so I didn't think it was a bad play...
I'm I missing something? Possibly a leak in my own game?

I'm supposed to play with these guys this Thursday, so I'd appreciate some input from all the great minds.
At least direct me to some Pot Limit Texas Hold 'Em thread if you would be so kind.
Thanks

I would still play it as if it were a NL game. And base your play on the style of opponents you are facing.
