My wife asked if I wanted a set of KEM cards, Piatnik, or Gemaco in blue and red. I said I don't know as I have only played with KEM.
Any input on which is better? Or, if not better, how they are different?

KEM KEM KEM KEM KEM.
Although I don't think they are producing cards at the moment. So in that case it's your choice.

Kem's are marginally better than Copags, but Copags are consideraly less expensive. They are the best option when considering price vs. performance in my opinion.
If you just want the best though, you can't go wrong with Kems.
BTW It's my understanding that Kem have been back in production for a month or so now.

The reason I list these three brands, is that flamingfrogpoker.com described KEM as good, Piatnick as better, and Gemaco as best. I wanted a second opinion.

If you going to get Kem cards, get Paisley style. They have a cool abstract design on them

Next you'll be recommending the poker table felt collection from Martha Stewart, lol.

poker felt from martha stewart, that's hilarious. i don't personally like the paisley style myself, but to each his own. i like the arrows the best, and i have a deck of monaco, they're pretty sweet too.

A KEM guy told me that paisley outsells the other styles 5-1 !
Though I find that hard to believe as I thoought arrows would be the bestseller.

I hear KEM are good but opinions on the subject are few and far between.
It's difficult to really get a feel for the pulse of FTR these days...

i have a setup of kems and love them. however certain kem styles are impossible to get these days since the company has been bought by u.s. playing card co., and they no longer offer the card replacement service in case of defects or bent cards.
i have tried copag and have to say they are extremely nice. the feel is excellent, in fact they are less slippery than my kems.
also, the printing quality is higher with copag than with kem. what do i mean by this? if you look closely at a kem face card, you'll see that the colors are created by benday dot patterns not pure spot colors, and the lines are muddied from the halftone printing process. i get the impression that kems were originally printed off machine dies that are no longer in existence, so they are now photoreproduced, degrading the print quality. kind of like making a xerox of an original. whereas the printing on the copags is extremely sharp and uses pure spot colors, not halftones.
given the significant price differential, i would recommend giving copags a try until kem gets its production lines back up.
