Hello B&M Newbies,
Here is a public service announcement for you guys something that I have learnt from my expensive mistakes in the past couple of weeks.
In showdown, NEVER MUCK YOUR CARDS until you are positive someone has shown a definite winning hand. NEVER muck even if someone announces their hand but hasnt flipped over their cards yet.
I hope someone stickifies the item in bold if not the post.
Yesterday this hand happened at a 9-18 table.
Hero is SB with Jc-Qc.
Preflop: MP1 limps, MP2 limps, CO limps, Button limps, Hero raises, BB calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, CO calls, Button calls.
Flop: Ac-3c-8d
Hero bets, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, CO raises, Button calls, Hero 3-bets, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, CO caps, Button calls, Hero calls, MP1 calls, MP2 folds.
Turn: Ac-3c-8d-Kd
CO bets, Button calls, Hero calls
River: Ac-3c-8d-Kd-Ks
Hero checks, CO checks, Button checks.
CO is a few seconds late to flip over the cards, Hero like a flippin idot mucks, CO shows 4c-7c, Button shows 4d-7d.
CO and button chop up the pot. Hero kicks himself. Hero got a free showdown and still lost like an idiot.
moral of the story:
NEVER MUCK YOUR CARDS AT SHOWDOWN UNLESS SOMEONE FLIPS OVER A BETTER HAND.

Thanks for the post. It's something so basic and it should be common sense, but I'm sure many MANY people lose money this way.
I'll link to this post in the sticky at the top.
