A couple of the guys that play in my home game object to playing Hold 'em because the play is so fast that we spend a lot of time shuffling (as opposed to 7-stud, for example). I think it is primarily because they are not particularly adept shufflers.
The last time we played, I tried to solve this problem by using extra decks and shuffling during the deal, but this caused me to miss my ante upon occasion and generally decreased my enjoyment of play.
Has anyone used an automatic shuffler for their home play? I would like to hold a NL tourney in a month or two, and I think it would almost be mandatory to have a two or four deck shuffler to make it fly with my bunch.
I would appreciate any feedback (good or bad) on shufflers you might have used.

How many people play in your games. When we play with 8 or more people, we use 2 decks. With 8 or fewer, we play with 1 deck.
I think the biggest difference is that we play mostly for fun. Keep the game slow and the talk loud. We have plenty of opportunities to play hard, serious poker. We just play a round game to have fun mostly.
As far as card shufflers, don't go cheap. I had bought one because it was only $15 and I wanted to see if it was any good. It wasn't. It was cheap and didn't shuffle well and cumbersome to use. I'm sure there are very good ones out there, but you are still going to have to play with 2 decks, shuffle one while playing another.

I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.

Shufflers aren't a bad idea, if you can handle the noise, size, and occasional card sticking to the side of the deposit. We also had some people at our home game who weren't the most adept shufflers, and it seemed we were spending so much time at it, even with 2 decks circling.
Pros:
Quicker for slow shufflers, Saves your hands, they aren't expensive, No Bent Cards, Easy to use.
Cons:
Bulky at a small table, loud, cards sometimes stick on inside wall, and slower for people who know how to shuffle quickly.
Its up to you, but for a 10-15 dollar investment, its not a bad attempt just to see if it helps or not. We went back to the good old 2 deck/small blind person shuffles the next deck method. It seems to work better as long as you put your small blind out before you start shuffling.

Humphrind, I guess I misunderstood what a two or four deck shuffler is.
There are generally 6-8 at my home game, so we use one deck. Thought maybe a two deck shuffler would shuffle two decks individually rather than two decks together. I see this is not the case as I've been browsing online.
I think I would like to offer it as an option for those who don't shuffle well. I'm no David Blaine, but I'm a pretty decent shuffler. I just don't want to be shuffling every other hand for those that don't like to or aren't good at it.
Thanks for the tips.

Hey, Xianti, you should move this to the "home games" forum. Man, you must be slipping! Normally you have stuff moved like minutes after the post goes up!

I caught part of a tourney on TV right before the Super Bowl two weeks ago. I think it was on NBC or Fox. I'm pretty sure they were using an automatic shuffler because they kept mentioning it "to ensure the randomness of the deal". I can't remember the name of it though but that's the one I'd go for if I was looking for a shuffler.

We tried an automatic shuffler once. And I do mean once. Took it out of the box and "shuffled" one hand with it. Stick with the 2 deck method. Works great for us.
