So, I'm wanting to take a trip up to Atlantic city with a couple friends after I graduate in may... I'd like a little input though on where to stay & play. I've searched through some of the other AC posts here and found out that Trump Taj has the most tables and maybe the fishiest low limit (3-6) players? Does the Taj have a good poker comp program towards rooms, or should i just get a room somewhere other than a casino (is there a best western nearby?). Obviously I'm looking to get away as cheaply as possible. Thanks for the tips.

Taj is a giant room, lots of action at all limits. They also have NL tourneys that have a reasonable structure. Located right in the mix on the boardwalk.
Tropicana is your next stop. They have a solid poker room that is big. They have some cheap buy-in R&A tournys I would avoid. The Trop property has had a nice makeover and is one of the best in AC.
Borgatta is the other biggy. Never played there. Heard good things. It's brand new. Hot waitresses. Lots of action. However, it is sort of way off the boardwalk and expensive. Probably not going to stay there unless you get a freebie.
Bally's has a poker room on 6th floor. Smallish compared to above. I had a good run in the NL game there on a Saturday lots of young bad players and a mix of bad old men.
AC is very very popular on the weekends. They sell out most places. Also tourny's don't usually run on weekends. Make a reservation.
I've stayed in Taj and Trop and in a dump. You must make a reservation. If you don't have a poker card with some hours logged you will not get any initial freebies. Log in a few hours and you can eat for free.

I've been to Vegas dozens and dozens of times but never to Atlantic City. I hope you have a good time.

taj is definitely fishy, both at 2/4 and 3/6. if you play there, get a "taj card" (register next to the ponies) and be sure to check-in with the floor manager as you are seated. after merely 5 hours, you will qualify for the poker room rate on your next visit.
talk to the check-out desk about getting the rate, as it must be reserved through the poker room and not the main reservation line. although the list can be long to get a room at the poker rate, it is an incredibly good deal -- i think i paid $69 on sunday during president's day weekend, whereas normal room rates are $350+. even the quality inn will run you $250, and a craphole motel will cost $100. the room i got at the taj was nice. 22nd floor with views of the ocean.
also be sure to check out the poker players snack bar at the taj. there is a hidden elevator behind the check-out desk to get there. very cool, and you can use your food comps ($0.50/hr) to buy hot dogs or hamburgers there.

Thanks for the tips guys. So do you think I could go play there for a day and then ask for the poker room rate for the following days, or just on the "next" trip. I think I'll call and see too.
