I'd like to ask advice from everyone. I've been playing online poker for about 4-5 months now, and I think I've gotten a lot better recently. I have been making it into the money (or close) in freerolls pretty frequently (I don't have much time to play, so I rarely play cash games, since I prefer tournament play in the time I do have).

In a few weeks I am going to Atlantic City, and I am going to Las Vegas this summer. I plan to do tournaments in both places, but I am not sure how I can get the best bang for my buck.

Because of the fact that I do tournaments, my experience is almost entirely in No Limit games. I'm worried that if I try Limit, that I'd be at a big disadvantage, but on the other hand, I don't have the confidence to plop down $100 on a NL buy in, right now.

How do you think I can maximize my play? After my school semester ends, I do plan on starting to play some Limit online to prepare myself for Las Vegas. Do you think it would be a mistake to play Limit in the brick and mortar casino, until I get a lot of experience with it online? I do have a solid grasp of the fundamentals of the game, and I've read about it a lot, I just have limited experience playing in limit games as of now.

How far do the Atlantic City tournaments pay out to? For example, for anyone who has done a tournament here, can you tell me what the lowest spot was for being in the money, and how much money was given to that person?

Also, if I buy into a 2/4 limit ring game, will the play be so terrible by the other players, that it will be too difficult to beat the games? My friend has gone to the Taj Mahal several times, and he's said that people play pretty stupidly. I know that if I play more tightly and solidly than the loose fishes, that I'll do decently, I just don't want to make a mistake by sitting at the wrong type of game.

What do you all think? Any "new to brick and mortar casino" stories that could give me confidence or tell me what to watch out for?

Learn how to play cash games. Why do you think these casino's run tourny's on weekdays and not many on weekends?....they want to feed the rings when people bust out.

Poker is very popular and every card room runs tournys now with various buy-ins. Many of the low buy-ins have the option to rebuy and addon. So just because it is a $30 entry, you better have 60-90 in your pocket to rebuy and addon.

The prize pool is dependent largely on the # of entries. Most of the $ is obviously at the final table, particularly in the top 3 just like online.

I recommend research online re: tourny schedules and buy ins.
