{Post edited to remove long, pointless anecdote about old wester poker player who physically trampled his opponents... becuase later they found out he was a Rhino.}

Me, of course.

(In all seriousness, when I'm 'in the zone' I can make great reads. For instance, a few weeks ago a play I made was called "Hellmuthian" by oneof my opponents because, while playing 3-handed Razz (for fun) I was able to tell my opponent had started with a pair (showing a 4) so I called him all the way and took the hand with my 9 low. Problem is those 'zone' moments are still far and few between, and I'm not yet skilled enough to capitalize on them fully when they do happen.)

sort of depends on the criteria needed to be the greatest of all time.
The best all round player I can think of would have to be either Texas Dolly or Chip Reese.

But the best NO LIMIT player (and come on people, no limit is all that counts!) would definitely have to be without a doubt the late and great Stu "the Kid" Ungar.

That link that rilla posted above just goes to show a part of the reason people think he was the greatest - he could read people easier than a picture book.
It's hard work. Gambling. Playing poker. Think about what it's like sitting at a poker table with people whose only goal is to cut your throat, take your money, and leave you out back talking to yourself about what went wrong inside.

For the time being I will say Unger also however with this being the "golden age of poker" and the invention of the hole cam there can be a case to be made that someone will overtake that throne i.e. like a Michael Jordan of poker if you will in the next 10 years or so. As in someone will adapt to the huge fields that are being played now and just be the one where we will all bow our heads.

In all seriousness I'd go with Stu Unger. Second place probably goes to Johnny Moss or Amarillo Slim.

I never got to see Stu Unger play but from the articles and buzz, it sounds like he really was in a league of his own. I'm sure it was how Radashack explains in his MTT advice thread, but more advanced and ballsy.

If he really could guess the opponent's cards in gin rummy like his movie portrayed, that would be a lethal talent in any other poker game. Winning 3 WSOP is quite a feat
