Recently I watched a hand play out where a player clearly disconnected on the Turn when his opponent made a large bet.

The SOB was on a Flush Draw and didnt want to spend $300 to see if he would hit. So he disconnected. The SOB made his flush and won a $350 pot.

This type of behaviour pisses me off to no end.

So instead of just bitching about it, I decided I would actually send an email to Party Poker and see if they would do something about it.

Heres their response:

Dear okietalker,

We appreciate you taking the time to report situations of alleged disconnect protection abuse at PartyPoker.com.

Starting with the hand histories (or hand #s) that you sent to us, we performed an investigation that would allow us to examine thoroughly the account in question: "aklosvik".

We have looked into the players records and collected all previous hands in which this player used the protection. Our goal was to look for a pattern where the player usually disconnects in key moments.

Some of the parameters we use when investigating possible protection abuse:
o The player's cards at the time of disconnection.
o The player's previous action (whether he was betting/raising) and also the actions of the other players at the time of disconnection.
o The benefit obtained by a player disconnecting.
o The timing of disconnection.
o A player's pattern of disconnections.
o Previous allegations made by other players and/or the system.

Using the information listed above we have investigated the history of the player thoroughly and have found that not only was the hand you reported suspicious but this player has shown a pattern of suspicious disconnects in the past. Based on this information we have taken away the disconnect protection privilege for this player. In the event he is disconnected in the future his hand will be folded. We have sent an email to the player informing him of the investigation.

We thank you for taking the time to report your suspicions. Keeping the games honest is our highest priority. If you need any clarifications or have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to assist you.

Best Regards,

When you see this type of behaviour report it and these cheating SOB's will lose their disconnect priviledge.
Just my opinion (and I'm probably wrong) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

IMO they shouldn't email the offender about losing their disconnect protection. They should find out when they DC from a $1000 pot and their hand is folded.

That kicks ass.

For those who think disconnect should be banned - it is banned at paradise. (Although this has also sucked for me once when I had a boat and got disconnected cuz I have shitty dial-up).

I like disconnect protect. It's a good feature to have as a backup. Until everyone has access to an 'undisconnectable internet', having it is a good idea. Remember, some people are still stuck with dial-up. There are still places in the US (I know hard to believe) where a broadband connection is not available. These player's shouldn't be penalized for technology that is not available to them in their area.

That said, disconnect protection abuse is cheating (I don't think anyone disagrees). I think the best thing to do is to report it. I think also that if at anytime a player is determined to be abusing it, any and all profits from any hands played where they won money using this tactic should be confiscated or the entire amount of their bankroll if it is less than the money they have won this way, should be confiscated and the monies won should be distributed fairly amongst any of the players remaining in the pot,

This guy is a pussy and is probably playing way above his bankroll. It is possible he's just a cheap ass who is a big chickenshit and lacks the balls to play NL poker. Seriously, if you're not willing to risk all of your chips on one hand when faced with the decision to do so, but still want to see the hand to the end, play limit poker. (This is not a derogatory comment directed toward limit poker). People who abuse this priveledge should be reported and swift justice should be served.

I aggree that DP sucks, but it shouldn't be removed. Offending players should have the money removed from their account and it should be given to the players who were cheated.

This would be a fair system.

This would never happen. I dislike DP, it has been used against me. But even my undisconnectable Internet has been disconnected while 4 tabling, only to get a free ride on all tables

If this guy is a serial disconecter reporting him is useless. He will probably just get a new screen name and continue doing it.
