Hey, is there anyone of you good players willing to take me on an understudy?

I'm a decent player with a bankroll of around $15,000 (I spent a lot of it, so now I'm down to 15). But I feel like my game has a lot of room for improvement. I'd like to hook up with someone whose game is better than mine to assist my development. I'm sure we could work out some form of compensation for your taking me under your wing. I think I could benefit from a second set of sharp eyes on my ring game.

I approached a few people about 6 months ago via PM, but no one bit. So I thought I just openly post it here, and see if I get a bite.

It needn't be long term or a huge commitment. Just try and see. If we don't click, then you can fire me...and vice versa.

Hey! You might find a good friend in any case!

Trip, I don't even know what you're talking about. You've brought up some Q2 hand like 3 times. I havn't played against you for a year. If I beat you with Q2, I'm sorry.

I do not remember that hand.

its ok.

I honestly think alot of their styles (illustrated in the videos) are a tad passé, compared to what the big winners are doing these days.

EasyT, you should go to the 6 max or another forum to ask this question. You'd probably get more response somewhere else. GL

It seems like pretty much every cash game player is a member. It sucks in some respects because it decreases the learning curve for a lot of players, but at the same time you see a lot of people taking the ideas and misapplying them. I've played against people I know are members and I still see them making some pretty bad mistakes. Like any kind of advice, no matter how good it may be it's still up to the individual to apply is correctly.

The videos pretty much just emphasize position and aggression. I'd recommend it to anyone playing $100NL and above if they're not already a member. For $20/month I think it's a great deal and am kinda suprised they haven't increased their rates yet.

Yes. EasyT, try asking this in the forum of the particular format you are interested in. The best players generally don't frequent Beginners Circle very often.

courtiebee or I could move this thread to another forum if you'd like.

I guess if we could get this thread moved over to the High Stakes Forum, that'd be great. That's where the right people might see it.

First, definately join cardrunners, it's the best investment you'll ever make when it comes to improving your poker game in my opinion. Ventrilo server and the chat room might be a good place to talk to other players, I have a couple of times watched others play using ventrilo, and having people watch me play. I never mind that, it's pretty usefull for both people, not there much these days since I'm desperately trying to get supernova in 2 more days though, but there are lots of nice people there. Anyways, just some ideas.

Cardrunners is $69 to start up though. $49 sign up fee and $20 first month fee. Are they any better than just reading the forums here? I ask because Ive never used Cardrunners and want to know if that extra $49 signup fee is worth it.

It's worth it if you're playing NL100 and above. Just figure the first two months is $89. If you use the site correctly, as in you actually watch the videos and apply the concepts, you'll easily make/save at least ONE buy-in while playing in those two months. So you'll basically be making your money back.

EasyT, Iwind's suggestion of Ventrillo is really good. I use it from time to time to ghost or get ghosted. Like he says it's beneficial for both players, as you're discussing the hows and whys to play certain hands. That's a start, maybe you'll find somebody on there that will take you under their wing...

Im with gabe, a few months ago i may have helped you out. Unfortunatly my life is upside down right now so i cant really.
FwIW, post your experience (i.e stakes played, hands played, bbs/100 etc)
Then id go out and play 15k hands at 200nl and post a bunch of HHs in the forums. From their you cn make a move to 400nl if your game is sound. Ofc you could do the same at 400nl or 100nl if you are uncomfy at 200nl or whatever.
Sure 15k hands is nothing, but itll give us a chance to see where your game is unless you already know that and know what you need to fix/improve on.

I played mostly NL100 and NL200 and had a ridiculously low bb/100. But made money snapping off bonuses. BB/100 was somewhere between 0 and 3.

I moved up to NL400 just because I felt my BR dictated I needed to move up. Beginners luck I guess....made $5k the first month. I've been losing since then, and bonuses no longer cover my losses.

So that's where I'm at. I never really bothered to learn the game much. I know. It's strange. I mean, I can recognize the strength of my hand. I picked up a few things. But I'm missing a lot of the game. I think watching someone else and having someone watch me would be a big help to get a jumpstart on my quest for improvement.

Some people here seem interested in helping. So I'm going to take someone up on it.

EasyT I might be interested. I am a big winner at 3/6 NL and below. At 5/10 NL (what I play right now), I am winning so far but I am not sure I have enough hands under my belt to confidently say I am a big winner at 5/10 (I have about 3,000 hands or so). I am equally skilled at full ring and 6-max.
BR now: $106900
Playing now: $10/10/20 - $20/40 NL live, $10/20 NL full ring online, $10/20 NL 6-max online, $20/40 FL 6-max online, $100/200 FL live
Goal: $125000 for $25/50 NL live

Thanks, spino1i. I'll PM you my email and we'll see if we can't work out some details. Rondavu also said he might help me. Still, I figure it's good to get multiple perspectives.
