As the new HSNL mod I figured it is an appropriate time to re open my well here. As it has been a long journey to HSNL mod from my good fold (linked) 3.5 years or so ago.
original well (linked)
A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says "On any day except Saturday, you can shout any question down that well and you'll be told the answer."
The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down: Why not on Saturday? and the voice from in the well shouts back: Because on Saturday, it’s your day in the well.

which is better? having sex with a 10 once a month or a 5 whenever you wanted it?
i'll think of more stuff later.

could you give some detailed advice to nl200/400 players (willing to move up), their biggest leaks, things to work on their game (maybe postflop specificly)?

my 2 cents (since zill hasn't replied yet and may initiate more questions/discussion which he can take over): lack of a practical understanding and implementation of balance

Red, What stakes do you currently play at and what is considered a good win rate at those stakes?

i saw red at 2000NL on stars a short while ago when I randomly opened up a table to watch.. and I would say any long term 'win' rate at that stake is considered pretty balla... my opinion obviously counts for nothing here though..

hahaha uhhhh i currently am playing 1/2 and 2/4 right now trying to rebuild my roll after shot taking vs fish went very wrong at 50/100 before that i mainly played 5/10. but i'd sometimes play lower when there weren't games and i'd play higher when the games ran. 2ptbb seems to be pretty solid these days at pretty much any stakes outside of the micros.

how important do you consider competence in mathematics to be in attainment of poker success?
which do you consider to be closer to the truth?:
- the best poker players in the world are so good at poker due to their mastery of dealing with numbers/formulas/equations/nanonoko etc
- maths is most certainly vital to coming to understand how poker works, but once one has a firm grasp of the mathematics behind how/why/where money flows in poker, the best players are determined by their ability to analyse what/why their opponents strategy is, and what the best counter strategy is?
cant remember making this post

i mean you obviously need to have a competent understanding of math in general to be successful. i don't think you have to be an all-star at it by any means. i think a general understanding of poker math is enough. at least to observe where you are getting exploited or where you are exploiting others without asking for help on the math stuff. if you would have asked me this question 3 months ago i would have said 2 and it wasn't close but im definitely starting to delve more into the math stuff so i'd still lean 2 but i'm definitely less confident in it. also, what makes you think nano is really into math? did you see an interview? or is it because he wears glasses and is a skinny asian kid? i'm asking you this legitimately.

i guess i just assumed he is because he plays 24-tables of 6max at once. that's a ton. maybe he's just incredibly fast and can actually play as "creatively" or whatever with 24 tables as he would with 10. just seems like when you're playing that many hands/minute, it would have to be robotic/formulaic to some degree. this is obviously pure speculation though.
realistically it's probably because i was incredibly drunk when i posted and had been shown the "i am nanonoko" pokerstars promotional video for the first time earlier that night.

you only need to understand math at a grade school level to be good at poker
interpreting how someone thinks based on how they play/past history (i.e. psychology) is way more important. anyone can figure out how to calculate pot odds.

also, @rpm.. would have to agree that nano must be a bit automated given the volume he's capable of, but i've also seen a video of him make an extremely well thought out soul read where he calls an all in river shove with K high, guy shows J7 high. villain was TAG based on first glance of stats, 13/11..
maybe it was isolated though, and he wasnt playing so many tables at the time.. i have no way of knowing...

obviously he makes read based decisions.. there's a difference between read based desicions for small to medium pots when holding a bluff catcher and calling allins 100bb deep with K high..
