I'm reconstructing this hand from memory, so bear with me. I'm holding in the BB at a 5/10 6-handed table. Guy one off the button pops it up to $35. I call. Just the two of us in the hand.

Flop comes . I bet $60, villain raises to $200. I call.

Turn comes . I check, villain bets $260. What's my play? Villain seems solid, no reads aside from that. We both have 1k stacks at the beginning of the hand.

I think I fold. I don't see what it is that you see which makes you feel he doesn't have a hand.

probably becuase the texture of the board loans itself to lots of draws and not very many pat hands.

Smithers, use the amnesia ray.
You mean the revolver, sir?
Precisely.

If you call the flop raise then you should either lead the turn strong or check raise (on a safe card, not sure if the K is a safe card) else you are better off folding on the flop when he raises because if you check call this turn you are going to be in a real tough spot on the river. Have you seen this guy semi-bluff before?

Did he bet $260 into a $470 pot on the turn? That bet size looks like he wants a call but if hes real tricky then i guess he could do that with a draw.

Trouble with this type of hand (A9) is that you are never going to make really strong hands and playing big pots with marginal hands OOP against solid opponents is going to get you killed. Just fold pf.

I would tend to agree that more often than not he has nothing here, as he raises on the flop, then continues when a K comes on the turn saying he is still comfortable with his hand even though the K appeared, the hands that would still be comfortable are a set (would he play it like that?) K9 ( you have a 9 so this is a bit more unlikely or AA. Maybe he wants a cheap showdown and betting so he can check the river with Jacks or Tens, if so a raise would surely make him fold. Another possibilty is AK, and he was trying to raise you off your hand on the flop and got TPTK on the turn. The only hands he would fold to a raise are TT JJ QQ, I think a fold is the best play here

Agreed, I should either lead or CR the turn, check-calling is not an option. Villain hasn't shown any hands down in the past, but given what I've seen he could easily be pushing with a draw, he is not a nit and doesn't seem to mind getting in the thick of things.

Decent analysis, except I would leave AK and sets out of the range. Also, if you are going to say that more often than not villain has nothing here, why should I fold?
