First post on this forum, I've enjoyed reading the various posts about hands and strategies.

I regularly (2 or 3 times a week) play live casino games with blinds of 2-2-5, 5-10, and 10-25- no limit hold em and also pot limit omaha. I typically buy in for 700 to 1000 dollars for the 2-5 and 5-10 and 2500 dollars in the 10-25 blind game.

The biggest pots I have won have been in Omaha (biggest pot was about 13,000). The biggest gain in 1 day has been 11k and the biggest lost in 1 day has been 4800.

My bankroll fluctuates, but I can't consisently win for whatever reason- although currently my bankroll is at all time high. Some weeks I'll run bad and give back several thousand dollars. Would you consider me a high stakes player compare to most here or a medium stakes? I've played online for fake money, but I fear of getting addicted to the online poker, so thus far I've stayed away from it. It seems the games online are looser and a faster paced with a lot more bad beats. Am I losing value in not playing online?

I play in Detroit, Michigan (greektown/motorcity) and also the canadian casinos just across the border. Are there any players from Detroit on here? Thanks for any replies.

Welcome.

I think as far as most of us are concerned, you play high stakes. People here tend to play online 25-200NL. Some play 500 or 1000 buyin. I play mostly $20-$30 buy-in SNGs, with some MTTs thrown in when I have time. I have started getting my feet wet with $25NL ($.25/$50) 6-max ring for variety.

I have never played in a casino - but the scuttle butt is that online players are much tighter and probably better for equivalent $$$, except at very low stakes (.10/.20 NL .25/.50 LHE) that casino games. Maybe not so much at the $10/$25 game.

Online is CERTAINLY faster paced.

It is supposed that the reason online players are better (they probably were not 18 months ago) is that you play SO many hands, that you can't help but get better or go bust. Survival of the fittest. There are plenty of bad players, I think at all stakes.

On line fake money poker is equivalent to playing your 12 year old brother for candy corn. That he won't even eat. When he's all messed up on theraflu.

Online advantages:
o hands/hour (= $$/hour if you are beating the game)
o lower rake (I think this is considerable!)
o (almost) never wait for a table, can always find a new one if you don't like the one you are at
o play multiple tables at once (some kookballs here play 10!) I can play 2 OK, at 4 my brain goes a little wonky
o very easy to take notes in game on players

Disadvantages:
o Very few "tells". You have to learn to read betting patterns and delays instead of eyes , hands, and chips.

I think people bluff more and as a consequence call more online since there is no fear of tells. I could be wrong about this though.

Another advantage to online poker is the bonuses offered. In just a few hours you can make $100 US. Hell, if you 10 table, you could do it in about an hour.

yes you are losing value by not playing online, but the games are tougher. You cannot make up for playing 12x less hands/hr at the casino, no matter how soft the game is.

You say you've played at the canadian casino's. I'm just curious what ones, and what stakes they normally spread.

For some reason I don't think that if he's playing 10-25 omaha he really wants to bonus whore...

But he wants to get rakeback..

Welcome, I would suggest to first start at lower stakes so that you could get a feel of the softwares and such and then when you are more adapt to the faster pace and the graphics move up.

When I play live games that aren't at a tournament that I've travelled to, I play at Greektown. But I really don't go that often at all. When I do go I exclusively play in the big holdem game they have there.

Welcome, in any case.

How do you compare? Well right now you are a 4. I am a 9. After attending camp fillmaff you will lose a point and be a 3. By that time I will probably be hovering around 11.
