Villain is 24/21/4 very good TAG. Mixes it up a lot and puts people in bad spots. I would suspect that he's working off the assumption that I'm barrelling this turn with my full range.

$5/$10 No Limit Holdem
6 players
Converted at weaktight.com

Stacks:
UTG ($1135.25)
Hero ($1312.00)
CO ($2130.50)
BTN ($2826.75)
SB ($999.25)
BB ($2153.00)

Pre-flop: ($15, 6 players) Hero is UTG+1
1 fold, Hero raises to $35, 1 fold, BTN calls $35, 2 folds

Flop: ($85, 2 players)
Hero bets $60, BTN calls $60

Turn: ($205, 2 players)
Hero bets $140, BTN calls $140

River: ($485, 2 players)
Hero ($1077)?

I'm actually not sure how I feel about this turn barrel.

If you think he's calling all pairs on the flop and now all pairs on the turn (since you're barreling with your full range), then that turn might as well have been an offsuit deuce. Only his Ax floats improved.

What would you do on the river if you fired a deuce turn?

I see no reason to check the flop. I guess the turn is alright if there's a decent chance he'll fold a J. (It'd be useful to have some kind of a read on how meekly he plays postflop.) On the river I would just give up. A-x and 7-x obviously aren't folding, and there's some chance he gets stubborn with a jack as well, especially since he was willing to call the turn with it.

CRAI ftw

edit : not saying that s a default or anything, but if I put any more $ in the pot that's how it'd be going in...
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?

I bet turn here because I do this with my bluffs and if I check I give my hand away and I give him the chance to float me which he will do a lot on this flop. I lost some money recently by bluffing river in spots like yours because people have Ax a lot and noone folds top pair (and sometimes he calls you with jack).

I check flop sometimes but you gotta have it in your overall gameplan. then about checking turn, you can check turn only if villain has seen you check an ace in your spot otherwise he will doublebarrell you off your hand.
The secret to success in poker is to rig the odds in your favor.

Because he expects me to bluff the Ace and give up the river so often?

Irish- because on a turn ace your hand still has a ton of showdown value vs weaker pairs and the various gutterball floats. couple that with the fact some big ace combos/AJ/7x r firmly in his range and a jack doesnt fold to one bet means that a double barrel actually accomplishes literally one thing: protection from being bluffed off by a smaller pair or gutter:: therefore if we decide to double we r committed to a triple in order to get all Jx combos to fold and maaaaybe some weak ace combos with runner draws like A9.

moral being: checking turn is probably correct but doubling is ur worst option of all
