I'm just going to post my opinions for fun.
Hand 1: I like it, I actually just did this recently as a bluff.
Hand 2: Looks good to me, I think way to many draws/air are in his range
Hand 3: This one I don't like. Opp's made a bet that makes no sense, which makes me think he actually has the goods. I don't think there's any reason for him to not think you have an overpair here.
Hand 4: Wouldn't a good opp never call the flop and turn here intending to fold the river?
Hand 5: I think he is folding TT,JJ,KK, and AA so yeah nh.
Hand 6: What are your reads? I mean this is probably good
Hand 7: PurplEUROS is a 3/6 guy right? Meh I think he's going to call you down. He doesn't look that strong which is going to make him find it weird you're pushing. He probably looks you up.
Hand 8: looks good
Hand 9: I really like it, he's probably reraising pre any hands that he'd call with here.
Hand 10: I mean fold pre? as played i guess you want him to put you on A6? Is it so unreasonable he has an A here?

on #10, i fully expect him to have an Ace and fold it. hes a good regular, i push over his big riv bet when the flush card fits. its an example of where you shouldnt be trying to make big folds against tricky players (like if he folded AA here because he knew i wouldnt do this withouth the flush thats terrible)

Hands 1-9 just look like someone who's amazing at poker being amazing at poker.

10 is the one that interests me the most.. You say he's a good reg, therefore surely he could tell that you wouldn't play the flush like that? If he's a reg he's prolly seen you push flushdraws on the flop quite a few times before, what makes him think you'd suddenly change it up and play a flush in a totally ABC (seemingly non-deceptive) way? Is this nth level thinking?

Do you ever call-call-push with sets?

I apologise if I shouldn't be posting in HSNL but high stakes hands are brilliantly interesting! If I should just lurk and stfu here tell me.

its one thing to be posting in high stakes and giving advice (those get annoying) but post like yours are welcome.

the villian has seen me push flushdraws in reraised pots on the flop i'm sure, but that doesn't mean i always do it. the main thing is im working on vs tighter regulars is making bluffs that people would never think are bluffs, so they find lots of reasons to fold.

Could you talk about Hand 4 some more. If a medium stakes player did this I would put him squarely on QQ and I would expect him to call me down most of the time almost no matter what the turn and river are. That's probably not true at 10/20 though, because you both know that each other don't suck. Do you think that turn and river made him more likely to fold QQ?

Ash, if he didn't want smaller stakes players to ask questions about how he played the hands he wouldn't have posted them here.

the crappy part about this is that there aren't enough posters on FTR qualified to appropriately comment in this thread (i'm def not one of them) because these hands are all pretty damn interesting. I (and im sure lots of others) appreciate you letting us have a look inside the higher stakes.

fwiw, 1-3-5-8 are the hands I liked the most. Results will be awesome to see (even if you ran bad in all the hands )

These are awesome to look at, and I too appreciate gabe posting these. But I doubt that sine of these are plays that gabe makes on a regular basis. It's gotta be right read, right spot, right time. If he made these all the time he'd be the "fish" at the table and would be broke right now.

It seems like everyone looks at this post and goes "OMG I COULD NEVER DO THAT PLAYING POKER." Maybe I'm wrong with that statement, but who knows.

Gabe this is great, though, you should do this more often. I too wish I could chime in but you're throwing around my entire BR on some of these pots, so I don't think it'd mean much.

Also, one more thought. I know this is 10 hands out of many many hands, but I think these plays would work out for the good a higher percentage of the time at higher stakes, rather than at NL200 (and hell maybe even NL400 or NL600) and below.

Reasons? One, you're playing against players that are thinking at much higher levels *most* of the time.....and two, the money you're playing with is a lot bigger.

well quite a few of them if you're called you can't be ahead, but if they worked i imagine it's that they folded (unless they're calling a push with a lower bare flush draw lol) I'll make a guess though and say you were never ahead in any of them at any time :P

No comments on the above, gabe?

Can this cross-over to lower-stakes games at all, and if so, how?

P.S. I added the "than anything us low-stakes guys play with" part to the end of my quote.

1) i like river shove b/c people will call here with 1 pair even though you know that, not really high on preflop but no biggie, flop and turn probably aren't best plays in isolation but are great for metagame, especially turn

2) top pair is the nuts here, insta-call

3) no dude, this is still a nit and he has you crushed, maybe you got lucky this time

4) 'TAG that kept checking' eh? not really a fan of the hand as a whole, i find people call too much when the go into wa/wb simply because of how they played it (myself included)

5) gross, fold somewhere. if you're hoping he has TJ/KJ, you don't even need to shove river either.

6) seems somewhat standard

7) i like your attitude, damnit

8) seems somewhat standard

9) i b3b bare flush draws as much as anybody, but i don't really like it in this spot. not enough dead money in the pot and there are some hands that you're in really bad shape against (bigger draws).

10) ha, <3

Hand 1- I play it the same- sometimes I c/r flop

Hand 2- I think this is completely player/ situation/ table flow dependent and I have never played with straate.

Hand 3- with your image this seems fine as a balancing play- specially if he does with 88 99 draws and bluffs as well as hands that beat you.

Hand 4- this is AK just about always in my experience- and tags dont fold AK to you when they take this line I dont think. Also your bet sizing seems bad as you dont have a psb left on river.

Hand 5- This seems really bad- if he has 22-88 your ahead, if he has any goofy type of str8 draw he wants to lead twice your ahead. If he has anything better hes calling. Plz explain this play to me.

Hand 6- std

Hand 7- you have a double gutter on flop- so its.... not a float. I agree you have about 0 sd value on river, but I dont know if you should turn it into a bluff.

Hand 8- this is super super std given your style of play- if you dont do this with your sets/2pairs than ur not a lag- ur a lagtard lol.

Hand 9- This is the perfect flop to make this play imo.

Hand 10- Call me crazy, but against you I think most good players (I heard kerpowski was real good idk) are only betting this river if planning to call a shove... or bluffing. Though the stacks are really, really perfect for this play, I think I like it. (Only trouble is I see you leading ur draws a lot when checked to on the turn even in 3bet pots- does he know this, and do you balance it with checks and bets with made hands often enough he cant gain any info from ur turn check?)

2p2 is down so I guess I will post my thoughts .
Hand1- Buck is pretty tight and reasonable. First off I think preflop kinda sucks but whatever. If he thinks your that bad, I think he should be raising flop or turn with an overpair but if he didn’t hes more likely to call a big river bet. So not a huge fan of this extreme river overbet. I think he is probably insta-calling with any hand that beats you (obv. ) and will probably fold all one pair hands with exception of AA/KK. I think its likely your ahead on river, but I just don’t think its likely that the push is going to get called enough to make it profitable against his range. Plays like this or good though and make you tough to play against but still not a huge fan of your river line.

Hand2- Meh, I think its marginal but probably fine. On your turn call, he can be bluffing or semibluffing enough times to make your call okay. If straate is not drunk though I’d obviously dump. Seems like you have a good balance of leading out with your hands. ;0.

Hand3- I don’t mind this. NMcNasty is not the type of player I want to get it in against, but I guess its okay. He is pretty tight, so I don’t know how often you are ahead here. As played with flop check you greatly under represented your hand so yeah once you check flop go broke on a safe turn.

Hand4- Occasionally fine for balance, I probably would rarely do this though.

Hand5- I really don’t like your flop and turn play. I guess on river you figure you might be pushing him off an ace here…? I probally check river expecting to scoop pot. I guess river push folds hands like- TT, JJ+ (lol rarely has it though) or Ax that would split pot. But all other pairs got counterfeit. Bottom line- I think its alright but I’d just check river.

Hand6- Yeah, you really limit the # of hands he can call with. Seems alright.

Hand7- Krantz can be quite the station. Yet, I probably push river as well if I float flop and fire turn.

Hand8- standard and fine.

Hand9- is there history behind this? People play crazy and retarded in sb vs bb situations. Not enough money in the pot to make a huge overbet like this. Good for meta though and balance.

Hand10- Yeah I like this a lot and you did a good job of representing the flush . If you are going to call the flop and not bet turn then pushing river is mandatory.
