Full Tilt Poker $10.00 No Limit Hold'em - 9 players - View hand 605166

UTG+1: $5.41
UTG+2: $2.65
MP1: $1.80
MP2: $16.88
CO: $21.04
Hero (BTN): $3.20
SB: $36.50
BB: $8.40
UTG: $15.18

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is BTN with A K
6 folds, Hero raises to $0.40, SB calls $0.35, 1 fold

Flop: ($0.90) 9 8 3 (2 players)
SB bets $0.50, Hero calls $0.50

Turn: ($1.90) 9 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $1.00, SB raises to $2.30, Hero folds

My thought in this case was that he is c-betting on a board with no high cards. call with AK is ok IMO

what do you think?

first off c-betting is when you as the preflop raiser opens the betting on the flop. in this case, the caller is betting into the raiser, so it's not a c-bet. some call that a "donk-bet".

anyway i'm no short-stacking expert, but i'm pretty sure that's not the right way to play with 30BB. You're putting in >10% of your stack in PF, so basically I think you have to decide on the flop to commit to going all in or not. your opponent betting the flop here is supposed to tell you something about his hand, depending on reads you have of him. put him on a range, decide how much equity you have vs that range.

do you normally sit short? if not, is there any reason why you didn't reload before this hand? Anyway since you're so short, you're not gonna make many hands fold ever. If he has any piece of that flop (9x, 8x, pp's, various draws), he'll most likely take it to showdown vs you. this is i think precisely why short-stacking actually works, because people mistakenly pay you off really light when your range is so strong.

thats the reason i usually play short stack strategy. i am not really familiar with big stack. however, i think i have to make a transfer to Big stack very soon because shortstack rush poker is double the minimum buy in than regular full ring cash game...
