I finally win a hand today when I'm not playing from BB, was very hesitant on the first £10 call, but he calls AA on the board with QQ, his mistake, my gain.

Why call the raise on the flop instead of folding or pushing all-in?

Because I'm still quite a novice, what would you have raised to there?
I've been burned a lot more with big hands than I have from worse hands.

Full table, I would have probably wanted to lay this down on the flop unless my opponent was overaggressive. The big raise followed by a cold call is scary. Short handed it's a tougher decision. If you think you're ahead here, then you want your money in now to save yourself from a decision when another club hits. Also, by re-raising the other player might fold a better or equal hand.
In general, when raised in NL I like to fold, re-raise or call with pot odds on the next single card to come, unless I'm trapping.
