i cant see any drastic errors there, You were very strong.. it would take a serious amount of player knowledge to lay that down, and someone could just have easily do that on trip 8s. I think you just have to pay him off and move on.. awful situation...

In more detail, i probably wouldnt have bet that flop, particularly having not raised preflop.. in a 4 way limp pot someone could quite easily have the 8.. leaving you 2 outs

This is a classic case of the set being lower than the pair. Against a solid player I respect, I actually lay this down if he goes all in. That's because I know he knows the board is paired, and wouldn't stick his neck out without a full house. That's why reads are important. To an unfamiliar player I lose all my chips however, since the straight is also out there. That makes it extra tough.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.
