The tables pretty quiet, no maniacs everybody sees alot of flops. My top pair had just been beaten on the river by a deuce to give the guy on my left (further refered to as Lefty) a set. Putting me on the short stack.

So now I'm on the button, I'm dealt a pair of sixes. about seven people at the table and everybody before me tries to limp in. I raise to 4x the BB. Everybody calls. Flop comes 2,4,A rainbow. everybody then checks to me. I raise all in. about 18x the big blind. I'm trying to look like i got one on the other aces. Lefty calls. everybody else folds. Lefty has A,5 os. No help on the turn or river. My stack is gone.

Would you have done the same?
or What would you have done different?

66 is not exactly a monster. Raising 4x BB at a table where "everybody sees a lot of flops" is just asking for trouble.

see this thread on the topic

with seven people in the hand, i'd expect at least one to have an ace (since Ax seems to be sooooooooooooooo popular).

so, i would not have gone all-in. i would have limped with 66 hoping for a set. since it's checked to you after the flop, you can take a stab at the pot (i wouldn't), but not nearly all-in. and get the hell out if you're raised back. 66 is not a hand i'd want to challenge a table of 7 with.

since lefty called, you could have checked the turn/river, and then re-evaluated if lefty bet. with small pairs and so many other players: "no set no bet."

i don't know if this was a tourney or not, but in a tourney, if you still have 18x the BB in your stack, you are not in critical mode. wait for a better hand to make a stand - you still have some time. if the BB if 10% or more of your stack, THEN things are getting dicey.

after your top pair got beat, were you tilting a little?

Plus, if I was Lefty, I'd be thinking TILT! I'm calling you with short of nothing.

I've seen quite a few players that will play Ace without a likely kicker like second pair and will sometimes trap agressive players after the first round of checking.

I got burned recently trying to get cute with pocket pairs.

I got 77, and call a manic raiser for 4x BB. 3 way pot with the manaic and a loose player on a tall stack.

Flop:
Q Q 4

check, check, I pot it, maniac goes over the top. I call and he shows Q8o.

I busted out 3 times in a row on that table...

it seems a lot of the bad beats i've received (and given - except with me, it was playing from the BB in an unraised hand) have come from Q - bad card.

the new level one party poker hand rankings:

Ax offsuit, Kx offsuit, Qx offsuite, AA, KK, QQ, AK

opps, forgot 85 suited.

If you were playing with normal people, I have no problem with the way you played that.

However, if you were playing on Party Poker, the all-in bet was a horrible move. Never OVERestimate the players on Party Poker. I realize that everyone checking was a sign of weakness, but I think about 99.5% of Party Poker players play any Ax preflop, and there are even more than that who would call ANY bet once they've made a pair of aces.

If an Ace is on the board, I am going to be checking or folding unless I've got Ace with high kicker or a +EV chance of hitting a straight or flush. Just last night, I folded KK after an Ace flopped.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I guess I was a bit on tilt. Lefty had some of "my" money. lol.
and I also need to learn to let go of low pocket pair. I almost did the same thing last night. But right before I went all in a warning light went off in my head and I layed it down. I hope i can keep laying them down but I'm like an alcoholic trying to dump out a beer.
