I usually play SNG, STT & MTT and am advanced there with a good win ratio. Last night I played .5/1NL shorthand on Noble to collect some crowns for their 50% reload bonus.

I got AQo and SB, two callers before me so I decide just to call. BB calls and the flop comes down as
2 4 Q rainbow
I bet $3, BB calls, other two fold
Turn is 5
No flush possible I bet the pot $10
BB calls
River is 3

What should I have done here?

What happened is that I bet $20 - he raises to $40
I was pretty pot commited so I called
BB fold over 67o!!

Bad beat or bad play? Feedback is appreciated.

Even when I had TPTK and flopped the straight on the river? My read on BB was that he would have raised my bet with KK or AA. But then I'm not experienced with NL ring games and every feedback is appreciated.

The flop was a pot bet, fine.
The turn is a pot bet into a small pot, fine. He isn’t getting odds to call for his OESD here.
River reveals a straight. You shouldn’t be pot commited here. Pot is 29, you should have at least 70 behind here…unless you were short stacked.
A smaller bet or a check is the play here. A smaller bet would likely have been minraised letting you off cheaper. A check and a very large bet and you can fold. Either way folding the river is an option.
Given that the wheel straight is possible with only an A in hand, I would fold the river to a raise.
Stakes: Playing $0.10/$0.25 NL

That makes sense Eric. I thought immediately that I did bet the river wrong and should have been more cautious. I put it down as a lesson

Oh wait, you had the wheel, he had better.
hmmm. Given the way it played out I would likely end up in the same boat at you.
Stakes: Playing $0.10/$0.25 NL

bad play imo
Success is how high you bounce after hitting bottom.

hmm let me see... I think OP made a few bad decisions, least of which is his post flop play;

while this is good and shows you have poker knowledge, it does not necessarily translate over to cash games.

again this is going away from you're strength, however if you must play ring to clear the bonus at least try a lower buy-in or full ring.

this i think was the biggest mistake of the hand. when bonus whoring your plan is usually to collect as many crowns, points or whatever, as possible without risking your stack; basically nutpeddle. so no fancy moves, u get it in when ur sure u have the nuts.

so my line;
I make it 3x + 1bb for every limper preflop.
if i miss, chk/fold
if i hit, i make 2/3rds psb or pot it or even chk/raise... depends on reads on villian. and chk/fold from here.

now perhaps you feel AQo is not a good hand to be raising OOP... Ok then you have to realize that you can't go crazy with TPTK on this flop. therefore you should pot it and hopefully take it down there... if not you are done with the hand; chk turn and chk/call reasonable bet on river.

Quote:
No flush possible I bet the pot $10
out of curiosity, was flush the only thing you thought about?

edit; I'm strictly a full ringer and i think my advice reflect this, however i maintain that if you are just playing this game to clear a bonus and you're not experienced in ring then you should play more conservatively and not go broke with TPTK here.

Thanks for the advise. Especially that I have played against my judgement in a cash game. I should have reaquainted myself first with the basics of shorthanded ring games.

To your question. No I initially thought he might slowplay AA, KK or two pairs with a Q and a lower kicker, but when I hit the straight on the river I thought the chances that he called all the way with any 6 in his pocket were slim. He did strike me as a bully who continuously pushed people out of the pot with big bets though. Anyway, I played it badly and will get to the drawing board regarding cash games again. After a walk I went back to $11SNG shorthand and won 2x in a row.
