This is my first post but have been visiting this site for a couple weeks now. First of all thanks to everyone who posts and runs this site. You guys I believe are a great help. I started playing a couple weeks ago and think I may be a little too tight. Check this out. I think I should of either gone all in or raised big here but I didn't have absolute nuts and have gotten screwed with nuts a few times and I couldn't forget it. I'm not sure if it matters if we post the real names here or not but I didn't want to take time changing all names other than mine so if I'm not supposed to just delete this post and email me please :P !! Thanks

Previous Hand - I'm sure I completely screwed this one too considering I had the nuts and went in probably way too much and folded everyone out. It could of worked good because I was congratulated on a nice bluff and I just said thanks playing on it. The hand under this one is the very next hand and the one I probably could of gotten the most money out of of. Thanks for any input I receive.

Thanks

Welcome to the board.

On the 1st hand, I would have bet like $.50 or $1.00 after the flop just because it seemed like everyone had a weak hand from all of the checking going on. The raise you made was too high, but you did have to worry about a flush draw on spades. I would have raised it a $1 or $2 and as long as a spade doesn't hit, bet like $5 or so on the river.

The second hand you played well in my opinion. No sense in betting like a maniac just in case that full house hit. I've seen plenty of people lose lots of money on a flush or straight to a possible full house showing. You could have tried another $3 raise if you were confident in your hand (like 75% sure you had the best hand).

Yeah I wasn't sure what I should do with the flush draw on that first hand. My brother went all in with at the time nuts just like I had and this dumb ass called like 15 bucks or something and hit his flush on the river. My brother was so pissed off. Thats kind of why I went in 10 because I wanted to bet out flush drawers and if someone called I wanted to make their asses pay if it didn't hit.

So in the future should I play hands like that light with a fairly small <$2 dollar bet and then if a flush card doesnt fall go in higher. If a flush card does hit about how high of a bet should I call? If he checks should I bet or check in fear of a check raise. I know it depends on table conditions but against the average player - if there is such a thing.

Thanks

Welcome and nice nuts.

Hand #1. The idea is to make 'em overpay for the draw, not spook them off. Put a price you think is fair enough for you to dump or check/call if the draw hits. I would have raised it to $3-$5. You want callers when you're ahead in the hand. A couple callers for $2 more would have had a big effect on your net return for the hand in exchange for a 1 in 5 shot at the backdoor flush (if anyone even has it!)

Hand #2. Well played. It's tough going all-in against a raiser in front with a full house or better straight (J8) beating you and 6 players having limped in.

Ditto that. Missed it on my first read through. No sense in drawing if no one wants to play and/or pay you off if you hit. It also might have given you a free river as everyone might have checked to the agressor on the flop.
