Live 1/2 NL

Villain 1 is a solid TAG. Never see anything out of line from him. ($500~)
Villain 2 is a maniac. Will raise anything pretty. ($230~)
Villain 3 is a tilting fish. ($120~)

I've pretty much been sitting like a rock for the past while. ($1400~)

Hero is dealt 8d8s.

UTG (Villain 1) raises to 12 (standard), Hero calls, UTG+2 (Villain 2, raises to 52), 1 fold, MP2 (Villain 3) calls, 3 folds, Villain 1 calls, Hero?

Do I call the 40 to spike a set, or is this an easy fold?

40 to win 850 if you can get em all in.
Looks like a decent call to me.

Are we playing purely for set value though?

Whats our plan if the flop comes, say 7 hi? or T hi?

Loose call, but I would gamble here.

There's already over $160 in the pot with a lot of money behind. Call.

Did we miss the preflop action? 88 no good preflop without improvement
At least one person likes there hand plus one person is tilting and will make bad decisions and the other is a fish. Definatly +ev to call here and take stacks with a set.

A lot of the money that we assume we're going to make is off of Villain 1 who is a solid TAG. I'm putting him on a hand like AK, so when he misses his flop, he's out of there quick, but he also knows I'm not an easy player to get chips from, so if I spike a set, he'll have trouble putting money in the pot with me.

If we assume that we are also behind another higher pair, do we still gamble with the maniac and the shortstack fish?

Implied odds on your set are good enough. Multi-way pot + 3 customers who figure to give you post-flop action.
