All FlopTurnRiverers...
Great site, Great advice. I've only been playing NLHE for a few months and the information I've gained from FTR has made me profitable. So thanks.
I played the hand described below this weekend and was a little bit pleased with the outcome.
The question is: Do you think I played it right or was I a bit fishy?
Basic ring game at a table I'd been playing for about 30 mins. The comments in brackets just here are my notes on the players involved.
Game #194012514: Texas Hold'em No Limit ($0.50/$1) - 2004/12/11 - 21:44:28 (GMT)
Table "Pendleton" Seat 3 is the button.
Seat 1: bombquam
Seat 2: Farmor83
Seat 3: bxlefty23
Seat 4: easy55
Seat 6: Phew72 ($48.50 in chips)
Seat 7: Bupp (Tight?-Aggressive) ($173.64 in chips)
Seat 8: Dannydare
Seat 9: MrShaggy (Tight-Passive) ($85.75 in chips)
Seat 10: anon1114
easy55: posts small blind $0.50
Phew72: posts big blind $1
----- HOLE CARDS -----
dealt to Phew72 [T Q ]
Bupp: calls $1
Dannydare: calls $1
MrShaggy: calls $1
anon1114: folds
bombquam: folds
Farmor83: folds
bxlefty23: folds
easy55: folds
Phew72: checks
[Not a brilliant hand but I'm given the opportunity to limp-in on the big blind.]
----- FLOP ----- [T 9 J ]
[OK, flop gives me middle pair but obvious straight on board - I ain't getting too involved]
Phew72: checks
Bupp: checks
Dannydare: checks
MrShaggy: bets $3
smart1 joins the table at seat #5
[My hand wavers over 'Fold' button for a second but I decide to try a move and see if MrShaggy actually does have something]
Phew72: raises to $6
Bupp: calls $6
[Eh? check-call from Bupp. Very quick call as well - could very well have KQ]
Dannydare: folds
MrShaggy: calls $3
[Alright, with MrShaggy in and suspected nuts straight with Bupp as well I'm check-folding the turn]
----- TURN ----- [T 9 J ][T ]
[Oh. Three of a kind - now I want to double check my read on Bupp]
Phew72: bets $10
Bupp: calls $10
MrShaggy: calls $10
[Finally, I'm satisfied. Bupp has the goods and is trying to get me to pay (quite successfully at the moment). As for MrShaggy, I wasn't too concerned - could have been my downfall - but I figure one pair of Jacks]
----- RIVER ----- [T 9 J T ][Q ]
[Holy cow! Do a double take...double-check (in me head - not a piece of paper! ) that a Full House beats a straight. Yup, that's right. Fantastic, let's get him to pay]
Phew72: bets $31.50 and is all-in
Bupp: calls $31.50
MrShaggy: folds
----- SHOW DOWN -----
Phew72: shows [T Q ] (A Full House, Tens full of Queens)
Bupp: shows [K Q ] (A Straight, King high)
Phew72 collected $112.50 from Main pot
----- SUMMARY -----
Total pot $115.50 Main pot $112.50 Rake $3
Board [T 9 J T Q ]
Seat 1: bombquam folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 2: Farmor83 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 3: bxlefty23 (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 4: easy55 (small blind) folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 6: Phew72 (big blind) showed [T Q ] and won ($112.50) with A Full House, Tens full of Queens
Seat 7: Bupp lost
Seat 8: Dannydare folded on the Flop
Seat 9: MrShaggy folded on the River
Seat 10: anon1114 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
So, what do you think?
Do you think I played a good hand or was playing a very fishy game?
Thanks in advance for any input.

You played just fine, Bupp should have reraised you on the turn when the pair showed on the board.

It is more a matter of "lucky you" and "poor playing Bupp" than it is a matter of "you played it well, dude." You took advantage of a leak of Bupps.
With the nut straight on a rainbow flop, someone betting hard into you, you have to know that they have got something decent, maybe two pair or trips. With the nut straight you can not smooth call on a dangerous board. Bupp should have pushed on the flop and taken the pot right there.
The rest of the story is inevitable

looks like you got lucky on the river.
The person w/ the straight on the turn should have pushed harder becuase his slow play did what everyone hates when you slow play them. They burn you.

You've put my mind at rest about my play.
I know for a fact that I would have folded if Bupp had raised me a significant amount either on the flop or turn.
Cheers, lads.
