FullTiltPoker Game #2068183101: Table Gemstone - $0.50/$1

Seat 2: Hero ($209.65)
Seat 3: Villain ($99.50)
6 other players, but their stacks are irrelevant.

*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero: [6s Ah]
5 folds
Hero: raises to $4
Villain: calls $3.50
1 fold
*** FLOP *** [7s Js 5h]
Villain: checks
Hero: bets $5.50
Villain: calls $5.50
*** TURN *** [7s Js 5h] [8h]
Villain: checks
Hero: checks
*** RIVER *** [7s Js 5h 8h] [Kh]
Villain: bets $14
Hero has 15 seconds left to act
Hero: calls $14

I thought it looked like a missed FD. I figured that villain would make a smaller lead with a good hand, hoping to get called, or a bigger raise to make me think he was bluffing so i might call with a weaker hand. This bet just looked suspicious to me. Good/bad call?

First, I wouldn't raise preflop with a crap ace. Third, the call is very borderline. Personally, I wouldn't make it.

I should have mentioned i was on the button in OP. I generally wouldn't raise with a weak ace unless i was in LP, with 100BB stacks.

Can you elaborate on why the call is borderline, nutz? I figured he was holding a set or nothing. What makes you think he has a good hand here?

I took your advice miffed, and raised a bet that i thought was a bluff. I am guessing this is because sometimes they are "bluffing" with a better hand than the one i am calling with, plus ?it perhaps saves opponents from seeing me make a thin call down?

If i am wrong, could you elaborate on why raising is better (or why you said it)?
