any glaring errors? It felt weird to be check calling trip aces on that board, but the straight and flush were possible.. ever consider folding it? or should I have check raised the turn.. that way gettin info on whether he has the flush, and scaring out the straight?

looks like he hit the flush to me. I'd play it the same way most likely.

I'd raise the flop to $6 and then go passive on the later rounds, hoping to score the boat.

Two pair would play the same way and an aggressive player may even play his draw this way.

First of all, why is your standard preflop raise only 4xBB at this level? Is it because Pokerstars is so tight? I would go with at least 8xBB at this level. Once people know it's your standard, they'll play ball with you. I think you're encouraging rag hands to come in with you at 4xBB.

As for this hand, I flopped a straight on 50NL the other day, and knew my opponent flopped a high set. I acted weak and called down knowing if the board didn't pair my implied odds were increasing street to street, since he would be less likely to put me on a straight if I pushed the river after smooth calling two streets. I knew if I pushed the flop he would race regardless, and I didn't really want that given my outstanding post flop implied odds as compared to his full house outs (at any time he would put it all in if I acted aggressive). I felt I would make more money in the long run in this situation by acting weak. I had him beat, but I wasn't chasing him out. At first glance it seems like you should push, but if the board doesn't pair, I'm getting all his chips anyway. Does that make sense?

Turns out the river paired jacks and I payed a little to see what I suspected... Kings full of Jacks, and still had 2/5ths of a buy in.

I hadnt actually thought about having a larger standard raise than 4-5.. ever.. so your saying at that level 8BB is ok with AK, AQ big pairs.. or if i'm lagging things a bit... though the average game i play sees very few raises bigger than 5BB... you think that if i bet larger preflop like that continuations have a much better chance of working at this level?

What happens is once you set the standard at the table, everyone else starts following suit. It's like the pied piper. People who raises 3xBB previous will raise maybe 5xBB, and then eventually 8xBB just like you. People like action RICH. It won't dry it up, it will increase it. They'll join the party. They'll also tag you with a loose image sometimes and pay you off on a false read.

In terms of continuations, the pot is at least 16xBB on the flop if you play this way. Continuations get more respect, and your reads tighten because if someone is willing to committ with you, then they have some kind of a hand.

CAUTION: It's very easy to get committed, so make sure your reads are right.

I should mention that I only play this way on sites where the BB is smaller than it should be for the limit. 25NL on party used to be 25¢/50¢ I believe, just like on Champs currently. Now it's 10¢/25¢. Ya gotta raise more preflop in that setting.

At 100 and 200NL you can settle down a bit. I think on 100NL my typical raise is 3.5xBB to $7. On 200NL my typical raise is 3-4xBB or $12-$16. Sometimes $20 if I really want to isolate.

100NL 3.5:7
200NL 3-4: 12 -16

the majority of games i see have, 100NL with 50/1 blinds, and 200 has 1/2..
