He might make this play with something as abismal as the AJ you know... You fold a lot dont you? Would this guy re-raise you with a set on this flop?

With the betting pf the 22, TT and JJ is probably the only hands you should worry about right?

hmm okey ... good fold! I was thinking that because tooly was first in calling the raise pf he was probably not on JT, but you cant always be right! Anyway I think you will be ahead more times then not in this situation, considering peopel thinking you just repd the flop not hitting it, cus of your half pot bet. Try to bet more on the flop then you will know for sure...

Yuck! Preflop, reraise more. On the flop, he could easily have AJ here and pay you off, KK and AA are out of the question becuase of the flat call preflop (also the weak initial raise preflop). I think you're safe here.

EDIT--- Yuck, JT. nm. You definitly need to reraise more preflop.

Your problem seems to always be fear to bet substantial money. NL is all about putting your opponent to a difficult decision, a 10c reraise preflop is callable by any two.

You're right, but I'm here to learn and this is why i'm seeking help from more experience players. I've always thought in terms of big blinds when there is betting.

I don't know if I've just played with weird people, but i really seem to get mixed feelings on what to do with certain hands especially pre-flop, there are often limpers with great starting hands including AK, AKs and even QQ, KK etc - one shouldn't always raise a lot preflop with these?

Or is it just that certain hands should be raised more preflop and others shouldn't - ive lost incredible amounts raising a lot with certain hands, especially the AK, AQ and such so are those better to limp with and the high pair better to raise ?

You want to raise with your big hands to get more money in the pot while you still have the best of it. Also, you need to thin the field becuase a lot of these hands are good heads up but lose value as more people enter the pot.

If you raise preflop, it's a good rule of thumb to bet strong into the flop reguardless of what falls. Let the other guy think, "Surely he has KK" and fold when you have AKs. Even if they do call with an underpair, you're still 25% to make a pair to win. You've gotta play more aggressively post flop.

I think you're playing too passively. (I love players like that.) In fact, just last night I got a passive/weak player to lay down QQ with nothing more than a pair of 8's. :P Don't be afraid to reraise.

In general, min raises are horrible in NL. You should almost never use them, unless you want everyone to call.

I'm sure you've read that people typically raise 3BB with a good hand before the flop, i do, but you have to take the table into account. You have the third best hand possible and there's a small raise in front of you so you need to re-raise to around 50/60c to knock out JT et al. Then everyone knows you have a good hand and when you bet strongly on the flop they've got to put you on a high pair. Obviously people flopping 2 pair is rare and you can't really expect it so you got off lightly here but with better preflop play this situation would never have arisen.

I remember when i first started i would fold a good hand and then watch the rest of the hand and see how my hand would have done and invariably it was beaten by worse hole cards and i would be satisfied that i made the right play but i hadn't because the garbage they were beating me with should never have been allowed the chance to play.
