Looks good to me. Oversets are pretty rare, even though they don't feel like it.

Note: KK would not bet that big. KK would want to ensure a call.

The more i think about it, the more i am unsure whether i should have called.

The 3 hands i think he could have had with his preflop raise were AA, KK and QQ. 2 out of these 3 hands had me beat at time of money going in.

My flop raise indicated i had a set, didn't it?

If he registered this, maybe he woulda thought "well, he has a set so he's gonna call anyhow" and then pushed with his top set.

I was gonna fold, but it was only when he said "he doesn't have a K" that my gut feeling said he had AA.
pocket Jacks eh?

Why? Does he only raise with these hands? He raised a little more than 4xBB, to me thats a standard preflop raise and he could have a wide range of hands.

Not necessarily, he could put you on AQ or KK or even a pocket pair like JJ or TT that is reraising the continuation bet to find out where hes at.

His turn bet was screaming that he wants you to fold not call. What you are describing is a level of play I dont think you will find at these stakes.

No, I would actually encourage calls like this because your implied odds are huge, especially at the lower limits where people can't lay down an over pair. Case in point...

I'll call 3x-5x BB bets pre-flop with small pocket pairs, especially I think I think that someone has a higher pocket pair like QQ-AA. With a rag flop, pretty much anyone will throw out a pot sized bet or even overbet when they have an overpair. Sets are hard to detect to begin with, and sometimes even more so when people don't expect little cards when you call a decent pre-flop bet. The hand I just posted is a little weird with so many other callers, but you get the idea.

When you find yourself in a situation like this where you hit a small set and you are confident in an over pair, then LEAD out if you're first to act. If you use the weak lead and bet around 1/3 - 1/2 the pot, the person with an over pair will almost always come over the top and usually pot commit themselves. You can then either re-raise and likely get a call or smooth call and wait for the turn to spring your trap.
TheXianti: (Triptanes) why are you not a thinking person?

You need to make these calls EVERY TIME with pocket pairs. EVERY TIME. You will hit a set something like 1/8 times on the flop. When you hit a set you have a great chance of getting paid. I know I love throwing $2.25 out there if I knew I had a chance to take a guy's entire stack.

Just remember: "Set it or forget it!"
