I'm wondering if bet/3-bet is a better play on the flop? Or even check/push to look like a semi-bluff. I fold preflop to avoid these spots

bad call preflop (I would make this on the button though).
as played, you need to give bad odds for flush chasers but not enough to scare overpairs or top pair away -- $38 in the pot when it's back to you, I make it $30
