Party NL$100 full ring(10 handed)

Unknown villain($105, I cover) limps UTG, one more limp, I call in MP with 88, button limps, sb completes, bb checks...

flop is 236 with two hearts

blinds check, UTG bets $1, next limp calls, I raise to $4, folds back to UTG who calls, other limper drops

turn is an offsuit 4
check, I bet $9, call

river is an offsuit 2
he bets $20 and I fold.

I've thought lots of this hand since I played it and just wanted opinions. The more I think of it the more I think it reeks of a bluffed missed heart draw. What hand that beats me plays like this?

Check the turn unless he's a passive fish who plays way too many hands and calls too much. Then again, given the action..... meh...

Should I want to protect my hand here? There are times that I'll check and then call a river bet.

A2 really doubtful, A5/55 no way, 99 again doubtful but I think it's more likely than the other 3.

Would you fold here Fnord?

That's usually my line. It's an unraised pot, I don't want to play for big bucks and the turn check on that board will draw a river auto-bet.

Dude, he limped UTG and min-bet the flop. What kinds of hands do players who run lines like that tend to have?

Could very well be a stupid 5x/2x. Feels like a value bet more than a missed draw. It's a reasonable call if he made the bet after you checked the turn. IMO his flop line indicates he hit something (low pair+gutshot/A2). Turn+river cards improve almost anything in that range.
