Setting: I was playing pretty tight, but really aggressive if I got an edge. I split a big pot before (called all-in with TPTK with gutshot straight draw, which I hit against a made straight on flop.. terrible play, I know), made some other bluffs/steals which were noticed, and told in the chat that I lost 4 buyins last night (which was true). So I had the image of a lucky fish basically. Next up this hand:

** Game ID 509452040 starting - 2005-09-23 02:59:03

** Detached Daddy [Hold 'em] (0.10|0.20 No Limit - Cash Game) Real Money

- ashleybb sitting in seat 2 with $18.80 [Dealer]
- SunTzu1 sitting in seat 3 with $21.25 [Sitting out]

Pixit posted the big blind - $0.20
ristorix posted to play - $0.20

** Dealing card to johnny291281: 9 of Spades, 8 of Spades

Sakiboy called - $0.20
ANNA-MARIA folded
johnny291281 called - $0.20
ristorix checked
kr89 raised - $0.40
ashleybb raised - $1.20
gedra88 folded
Pixit folded
Sakiboy folded
johnny291281 called - $1.20
ristorix folded
kr89 called - $1.20

** Dealing the flop: Jack of Clubs, 10 of Spades, 5 of Diamonds

johnny291281 checked
kr89 bet - $0.40
ashleybb raised - $3.20
johnny291281 called - $3.20
kr89 folded

** Dealing the turn: 7 of Clubs

johnny291281 checked
ashleybb went all-in - $14.40
johnny291281 called - $14.40
ashleybb shows: King of Spades, King of Hearts

** Dealing the river: 3 of Clubs

johnny291281 wins $39.60 from the main pot

End of game 509452040

Was my preflop call ok? I think it's not in general, but my table image increased the implied odds now..
And how about the flop/turn?

9s8s is a hand that I would love to limp in with in your spot. Things looked good until the preflop raise, which gives a few less reasons (stacks) to play this hand. After you get the draw, then we see another raise that doesn't really give you phenomenal pot odds.....

Then you called with a straight draw in a heads up situation. Luckily you hit the straight on the turn because I doubt you would have called another raise to see the river card.

Percentages you see for draws are usually for the turn and river, but when you're not allin it's the turn that really matters. If you don't hit it on that fourth card then you're in for some more stressful decisions!

I wouldn't make this call all day, but once in a while to mix things up or to just have some fun I see no problem calling with an open ended straight draw in heads up, as long as the price isn't too high. I would love to call if more people were in the hand, but I would usually fold something like that in your situation.

LMAO. It's a good thing they didn't know the truth, which is that you lost 4 buyins last night.

I like this play because you could easily put the villain on a high pocket preflop. That on top of your image (is it REALLY an image? Lol) gives oustanding implied odds. I would let go for a big turn bet unimproved however. Obviously villain would have gone all in either way.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.
