Notes on player where seen him limp with 88 & 22 and bet the pot when he hit his set - he was raised both times and he moved allin and won both the pots against overpairs.
He has raised this amount before but only once and this was about 30mins ago and no one called - i folded AKo - maybe weak but i had no reads on him and this raise usually means AA KK at this level.
So when he raised this again I thought i was probally up against AA KK so looking at his stack decided to call in the hope I would hit a set and double through if i did but fold if i miss.
Shocked when i seen his hand as he seemed a decent (at this level) player up until this hand.
Any thoughts?

Looks like you found a new buddy. The only thing better than an opp who can't lay down TPTK is one who can't lay down MPMK.
BTW if you thought heshe had AA/KK the turn bet is good. But just in case you were off, a somewhat smaller bet there is more likely to get a call from stuff like ... say, AJ/KJ (or KT lol)

Is this a better line than smooth calling the flop and then rerasing the turn? I guess that just screams set, but do you risk pushing him off on the flop less often than he's calling?

With the JT onboard and a PFR I can't give a free card. If opp folds, so be it.

LeFou - It's a classic - Agree that if i thought he had AJ/KJ (and not to forget K10) a smaller bet on the turn would be better here.
RubixNL - just what LeFou wrote. A lot of players at this level can't fold an over pair on the flop - so its best to get as much money in as possible and get them committed to the pot - also a lot of these players don't even think what you have or just believe big bet equals bluff.
