Don't think I woulda called this PFR. Its 15% of your stack and your OOP. Assuming your gonna hit 12.5 percent of the time you could have no stack left when you do.

The wise old men say the rule is -

<5% = automatic call
>10% = automatic fold
5%<PFR<10% = depends on position, reads, card value etc.

This is why you should top up you're stack, helping your implied odds when you hit your set.

If you have a $25 stack then this is an auto call for set value. You hit about 1 in 8 times so 1.35 * 8 = $10.8 - total price you pay to flop a set or better.

With your stack it wasnt really worth playing for set value.. so get big stacked 8)

Heres to playing for set -value!...

vnh.

Always call raises with pocket pairs in hopes of making your set.

You're being too simplistic.

How much did he have to call the second time? How much was in the pot? How much is left to make-up post-flop in terms of EV when he hits?

Consider....

Everyone has $5

I limp UTG for 0.01 with 22
UTG+1 raises to $1
All 8 other players call
Easy call for 20% of my stack.

I think that y'all are being a bit too simplistic. Look at how many people already were in for the raise. Even with the OP's smaller stack, this is still worth it, but mostly because of the fact that so many people called beforehand. Being OOP with a PP isn't as important as doing it with a suited connector, because you either hit the flop or you don't; that's it.

Calling preflop was fine.

Well, he's calling for 1.10, he would need to win 8.80 each time he hits his set to make this good. Anyone think he would average less than that with 5.65 already in the pot?

When you factor in his small stack, which will make it much easier for him to get action for his whole stack when he hits, this is an easy call.

Ya, when you buy in short you usually have no implied odds with low pocket pairs. You have to except that as a condition of buying in short. However, when he raised you got 3 callers of that substantial raise before you decided to act. That actually gives you enough implied odds to call based on possible multi way action if you spike a set. I'm no wizard of poker math, but the 12% can't be compared against the 15% as a losing proposition because if you hit there's a great chance for you to more than double up. The raise was 5xBB in a family pot before you. In my mind this is an easy call preflop. It's one I wouldn't like with a short stack, but the slightly favorable implied odds would dictate I make it.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.
