ok, i've been thinking a bunch about the need to get better at poker.
I finally started to do something about it, it is working.
I've had a thought just now, loads of people who beat their current stakes are talking about coaching etc.
A bunch of the micro-guys are sweating each other all over the place, and seem to be getting better.
Anyway, is anyone interested in trading 2hrs coaching for 2hrs coaching? I think I could learn a bunch from someone who is beating the games I play, and they could probably learn something from me too.
We'll have different strengths and weaknesses, right?

yeah, but one of my (unfortunate?) poker goals is to make 100k from poker by May 2010 without ever reading a poker book or paying for coaching.

while it's "cool" you don't want to get coaching it's sick ridiculous that one of the best FR midstakes players posts/coaches on FTR for a very cheap rate and you're just throwing away potential earn by not taking him up on it.

I think it's just a non optimal way of describing it - it's not really coaching when both players are about at the same level.
But I think it's funny how these threads are always picked apart by some people. I mean how can it possibly beneficial to talk about strategy with other people? /sarcasm
Also I think some of you are outpricing yourself. - You cannot relate your coaching prices to what your expectation is at the highest levels you play /hr - it's a completely different thing. Just because you're a competent player doesn't mean you're a competent coach until you can show some credentials.

Personally, you can't expect a coach to charge less than his hourly rate for his services. Whether or not you choose to get coached by him is on your shoulders not his to prove to you.
I'm not against ghosting your friend/peer while playing in fact that is a good way, its just that Op's attitude is pretty poor when his goal is to 'get better at poker.'

I think this is a good idea. Doesnt replace a quality proven coach of course, but anything you can help pick up on each others play is useful.
I used to be part of a poker group that posted a heap of hands, shared vids, emailed discussions, etc. Found it quite useful.

yeah i agree i think the response from this thread has been generally way too negative you can really learn a lot from talking to players at the same level as you and comparing thought processes to eliminate leaks in your game.

I think there's plenty of value in sweat sessions between 2 players at a certain limit -- but only for 2 or so sweat sessions.
I think quickly both players will see some leaks and help each other think about their game, but very soon there will be decreasing returns with scale

disagree - $100 per hr from someone like renton (he wrote the abc theorem etc) is great value.
jeff and others, you are probably correct that not getting coaching is silly, iäll re-assess in a week or so
