Raising with these hands is not insane if you know how to play them correctly, infact they can payoff against opponents you know and that you have notes on. This particular player almost always re-raises top pair. The river bet was an instant call for me, and as you can see he had diddly shit.

Is it going to pay off in the long-run to raise with rags? With this logic, you might as well raise every hand and get out if you don't hit 2 pair on the flop.

Am I missing something or is that how your post reads?

Please don't take offence, it's just a question. I'm just playing devils advocate here. To me, it looks like you just just got lucky playing rags on that hand.

I only do this in certain situations where I think it can be profitable based on my opponent's play, and usually in shorthanded games. Also I only do it with SUITED connectors, or gapped suited connectors which have great implied odds. Also I usually do it when I know alot of people are limping so the raise is sort of a pot builder.

Also there is a big difference between calling with these hands, and raising with them. When I show down and people see what I raised with, they peg me as a maniac when in reality I'm not.

is it just me or is that river card scary for you? He checked the turn which is usually a slow play move, maybe thats why you checked as well, or did you have a pretty good read on this player. Is this also why you only called his bet on the river and failed to raise, which is contradictory to your previous check on the turn since you thought he could possible have a 9? Just wondering what your thoughts where on this hand and what kinds of reads you had on this player.

?He almost always check-raised, or re-raised top pair. His call said to me he was on a draw and did not have a 9. I've also seen him bluff alot of missed hands on the river.
