Depends on the read. Is he a loose caller? He would have to be to have a straight. Otherwise It's unlikely he has a straight because he would have to have 34 to be open ended on the flop, and have called a preflop raise with it. If he has 89 he called a huge pot bet on the flop with only a gut shot. Some coordinators are deceptive. You have to put your opponent on cards. if the flop was 76, and then a 5 hit the turn it's more likely he has a straight.

You're up against a lower set, an overpair, or a stupid low two pair from a wise guy trying to employ implied odds with bad timing.

With your experience, you probably "felt" ahead here, and were rewarded for listening to your gut. It was actually a very logical call. I pay an unlikely straight off here since it seems +EV.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

this was my thoughts behind pushing.. I didnt quite think all this through during the hand

34, no. wouldnt have called preflop
89, unlikely but possible, probably wouldnt have called on the gutshot, so only if he had flush draw aswell.

lower set, possible. call flop then raise turn when the board is full of draws.

two pair, also possible.. its beating the over pair and AQ.

over pair, i dont think so, because it wouldve reraised me preflop.

so i feel that it is more likely that i'm against lower set, two pair. so ahead. And if i'm wrong and a straight is there.. well i still have 10 outs.

now for why i pushed.. his raise was pretty huge, if i called it, more than half my stack was in there and it would be a weird fold at the river, so i might aswell just push it all here rather than give an oppertunity for the board to get even more scary.

does this make sense?

hard to put him on a straight the way the hand was played, unless he was a really loose player and called a raise with 34,89, 84. Seem like very unlikely hands. You wanna try to put your opponent on hands and those dont seem logical unless you have a really good read. He most likey has AA KK 55 66 77 or maybe even A Q, K Q (those sound a lot more logical hands to call the raise pre flop and on the flop dont you believe?) and put you on the Diamond draw or something. He cannot put you on the QQ because you led out and bet (most people would check that i have seen) Remember always be thinking
What do you think your opponent has
What does he think you have
What does he think you think he has

yes, i specifically led out so he wouldnt put me on QQ.. (and because of flush draw) you think they would trap with AA, KK? no reraise preflop? 55, 66, make sense, dont think 77 wouldnt stayed in on the flop..
and yeh, i need to work on those questions.. they are engrained onto my mind, but i always forget about them when i'm actually in the middle of a hand..

I have seen people play AA and KK very strange. Like limpin in when 4 people have already limped with the BB and SB still in also. They ended up losing the hand like they should have. But i agree 55 and 66 are the most likely.
Lol. I forget about those questions a lot during a hand also.
