I'm guessing it is, villain has been pretty manic, pot happy but he's not calling with much of a weaker hand right? The better play would have been to call behind and then let him hang himself on river?

Raise more pre.
Bet flop, like 50cents.
Your line smells like a set that made a fullhouse, or AK. Villain has a king and probably a worse kicker. Push is horrible, very few weaker hands will call. People will hate this, but here is a situation that i would min-raise and hope for a five-bet from the villain. Based on your read, you gotta get all-in here if you get a chance

Cheers for the response. Afterwards I'm thinking the only hands that he calls me with beat me so it's a pretty poor move.

I call turn and call river or if he checks bet about 2/3rds of the pot and call a push with the read.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.
