 Here's the story. I wouldn't normally call a $6 pre-flop bet with pocket 88, but certain conditions made me give it a shot in this instance. This was still somewhat risky, and yes, I got very lucky.

I was having a very good night. This table had quite a few loose, aggressive players. Many of them (including Player4 here) were betting way too much pre-flop with mediocre pairs. Not only that, a few of them would call big pre-flop bets with weak pocket cards, so the pot was almost certain to be substantial if anyone raised pre-flop.

When I got this pocket 88, I already had a huge chip-stack with Player7 being the only one to watch out for. Player4 bet $6. I wasn't going to call it, but Player7 to my right called, thus doubling the pot when it came to me. I figured Player7 probably had me beat, but I decided to call the $6 for the $12.75 pot and hoped to flop a set.

Lo and behold, I flopped a set!

Nice stack going into this one! Definatly got luckly on this hand.

3rd one in with players to go, it's not a horrible call, however I would be concerned about a raise after you. Calling a pre-flop raise on mediocre pocket pairs can be profitable if you still have enough chips on both stacks to get a set to payoff. It also helps to have multiple callers and a strong tolerance for pain...

Would be a stronger call if you were calling less money relative to chips out there (think $4) and/or had more callers in front with fewer players to go from behind.

Why the $70 bet on the turn? Sounds like a pretty outragous price to cover the risk of him outdrawing you.

Nice stack going into this one! Definatly got luckly on this hand.

3rd one in with players to go, it's not a horrible call, however I would be concerned about a raise after you. Calling a pre-flop raise on mediocre pocket pairs can be profitable if you still have enough chips on both stacks to get a set to payoff. It also helps to have multiple callers and a strong tolerance for pain...

Would be a stronger call if you were calling less money relative to chips out there (think $4) and/or had more callers in front with fewer players to go from behind.

Why the $70 bet on the turn? Sounds like a pretty outragous price to cover the risk of him outdrawing you.
