This is a hand I played a few months ago (when I was more of a newbie, though a winning one) which was brought up in conversation tonight and led to a considerable argument about correct tactics. Please let me know what you think of my play, and what you think drease (my only read was that he was a solid, ABC player) held:

Game #738773213: Texas Hold'em No Limit (£0.15/£0.25) - 2005/06/05 - 18:28:53 (UK)

Seat 1: llamaman (£59 in chips)
Seat 2: Anto23094 sits out
Seat 4: martinii (£31.65 in chips)
Seat 5: drease (£72.80 in chips)
Seat 6: Zevs99 (£19.60 in chips)
Seat 8: Markelby (£47.76 in chips)
Seat 9: Igotnufin (£13.50 in chips)
Seat 10: Nomisg (£26.35 in chips)
Markelby: posts small blind £0.15
Igotnufin: posts big blind £0.25

----- HOLE CARDS -----

Nomisg: calls £0.25
llamaman: folds
martinii: folds
drease: calls £0.25
Zevs99: folds
Markelby: calls £0.10
Igotnufin: checks

----- FLOP ----- [2h Qh Ts]
Markelby: checks
Igotnufin: checks
Nomisg: checks
drease: bets £5
Markelby: raises to £10
Anto23094 sits back

drease: raises to £72.55 and is all-in
Markelby: is all-in £37.51
Returned uncalled bets £25.04 to drease

Solid ABC player bets £5 into a £1 pot on the flop when last to act and it's checked to him? Sounds odd.
May I guess he has something like J9 or AT and thinks "Even if he's got a hand I still have about 50% chance of winning this pot with two cards to come, so including fold equity it's +EV for me to jam it on the flop"?

only hand that i think have you beat here is Q10.

I put him on AQ, Qx, overpair, possibly flush draw(less likely).

I call this all day in low limits.

QQ and 22 are very unlikely and TT is unlikely too because theres no reason he plays it this hard and he maybe would have raised before the flop.

I don't think he is a "solid ABC player".

He either holds Q10 or you have him beat i would say.

He limped AQ from the cut-off. I have no idea why he bet so big on the flop - nervous about the draw? He had honestly seemed a solid player up till this hand, but I could think of no possible justification for such a big bet other than to bully me out of the hand.

The all-in was more of the same, but tbh by this point I was sticking with my reads of his inital bet and with the possible exception of QT, I just couldn't seem him having anything that beat me.

Two pair is nice and all, but I don't like the 2. Even if he has Qx, if he pairs the x he has you beat as well. It was a strange flop bet however.

I'm not a big cash game NL player. But I would have called there as well. I'm guessing he has :Jh: :Kh: but I call because I don't think I'm dominated + he might have like QK or AQ.

He bet $5 into a $1 pot. WTF is ABC about that?

I really hate min-raising that silly bet on the flop with a draw heavy board, only bad things can happen from there.

That's the point Fnord - he had played solid, ABC poker UP TO this hand. No by-the-book player is going to make a massive overbet with a great hand. It HAD to be a bluff.
