hi, i'm fairly sure i did everything right here (maybe the pf raise needs to be bigger? i've been using a standard amount to try and prevent people getting an idea of what i'm raising with).

as context, the guy was playing very tight, game time had him down as a rock. however, given the board and the quick flop call he made (pretty much immediate) i would probably have laid it down to any of the players - i just felt beaten.

he told me good fold afterwards (well he would right?) and people were guessing at his hand, he denied a set or a boat which to me leaves only one option given that he called a pf raise, had been playing very tight and called the flop raise so quickly - i can only assume he had pocket 8's? can't imagine him playing suited connectors to a pf raise for the straight flush and i can't see him calling the flop bet so quickly or perhaps even at all with AKs.

it's just been bugging me all day and i'd appreciate another viewpoint - would you have played it differently and if so how? i struggle when the flop comes down 3 of a suit or with a pair on board - if the initial bet doesn't take it i tend to become very weak - any thoughts on strategy there also appreciated [sorry - bridging forums i guess]

He's bet pretty weak on the turn there ($2 into a $12 pot). You probably are beat, but it's probably worth calling the turn bet and trying to get a cheap showdown with a hand that could possibly win (you beat AT, KT, JJ here).

Of course, if he bets huge on the river, you will be forced to make a lay down, but it's always worth trying to get that cheap showdown with hands like this.

like i say i just felt beaten - i have a nasty habit of immediately seeing all the possible hands that can beat mine and yes his bet is small - it just made me feel like he knew he was safe and was trying to milk as much money as possible and as you say the big bet might have dropped on the river.

i take your point though that with the money already invested it would probably have been worth calling the turn and seeing what happened - try to show it down cheap. it's drawing that fine line between making the right call and donating. the learning curve continues ever upward...

[although as an aside i'm not sure what card i could have seen that wouldn't have got me into more trouble - Ace of spades maybe but he could have made a flush, a straight, a boat, quads or even a straight flush (theoretically...).]

I think you had a good read on this one, but I'm a little confused by his play. First he limps in from EP, then just calls your raise. From EP I wouldn't expect a tight player to be holding anything other than 2 high cards. 50 cents on the flop is very suspicious, and even more after he cold calls a raise to 4. Way to pick this up and let the hand go.

call. he's a rock, he will probably throw out a pansy ass bet on the river too. worth a cheap showdown in case he caught a 10 or had jj/qq/kk.

With position on him you could call the small bet on the turn and hope he checks the river either with a winning hand hoping to check-raise or with a weaker hand hoping for a cheap showdown [which you can check behind and give]

Another option is to value raise the turn for a 'free showdown' - so he'll either have a good hand and hope to check-raise the river or a weaker hand and make a scared check at the river and u can check behind. Probly not a very good choice in this scenario as your so sure you were beat.

You went with your read and made a good play upon it. Even if you were beat or drawing, you know what they say - sometimes you just have to fold the winning hand.
