On the turn I'm pretty worried, but I remember Sklanksy saying in large pots you need to take more risks as folding the best hand becomes a huge mistake so I decide to call and push the river. What was my opp doing here??

I'd make a pot sized raise on the flop. It's a 1.50 to him for a pot of $3.70

As for your opponent, I guess a 6 7 would fit here. Goes for semi-bluff on the turn, rivers a blank. No point in him wasting any more money.

I wouldn't be worried on this flop unless my opponent was super loose-passive, in which case I'm probably paying off his 5x anyway. This is a great flop for you to get some value from lower pairs than yours.

He very likely had a pair 66-99 and didn't believe you on the flop...you check the turn which very often indicates that you missed (he would most likely have folded the turn if you had bet there), so he thinks his hand is best and doesn't want to be rivered by your hi cards so he puts in a good bet to deny you odds. The hi card rivers, and completes the hand that he most likely puts you on and you bet at it so he folds.

As far as play goes, I would probably raise a little more preflop ($0.70 - $0.80) OOP with limpers - but not much more so that's not a big deal.
If you want to be a little tricky the flop raise is fine, you could certainly go closer to pot. Then you might as well check-raise the turn allin. He probably folds there anyway but sometimes it looks suspicious enough to get a call from a lower pair.

Thanks that makes a lot of sense, interesting that my turn check may have netted me an extra 4 dollars. Having done it though I agree I should have c/r allin once I decided I was calling that is!
