This guy admitted this the only way he'd go all in with his jacks.. (i.e. if i had pulled the classic turn raise he would have folded) but the move i pulled here seems so.. unorthodox! What do you think of this move? (By the way, the hand before this i had just gotten bad beaten, so he might have thought i was on tilt)

I don't know about AI there. He's obviously got a made hand which could
mean a big pair. He wouldn't play a set like that. This is a situation where I would slow play. In this case you got him to call your AI but a better player may fold here and you would lose value on your set.

I don't think this is all that unorthodox. It's not "by the book" I guess, but I see it all the time. Aggressive players always play their hands fast and hope for calls from people who think they're bluffing.

ill tell you this.. he thought about it nearly the whole alloted time (like 30 seconds), and finally called. He was also extremely mad and on tilt after making that bad call lol

I was hoping to make it look like some sort of semi-bluff, like i was on a flush draw or something..

It's cool that your opponent actually did call your all-in, but by making a smaller raise you almost guarantee winning a fairly large pot anyways. By moving all-in, you're risking winning next to nothing in favor of the very slight chance of winning a little more than you would've almost certainly won by making a standard raise and then perhaps smooth calling a reraise.

You're probably costing yourself potential winnings in the long run by making this play.

I disagree. Just because you win in a certain suituation doesn't mean its always the right decision.

Well now that i think about it.. its sort of taking a risk on getting any money... theres prolly some chance he'll call and some chance he'll fold.. so prolly in the future will not try this. Though these all-ins are great when you are semi-bluffing!

Reason enough to make a play like this.

Especially river-over bets. Those tilt people good.

Like 600 into a 200 pot when I make a straight.

How big of a pot do you think he could take with this hand? The K and Q that come on the turn are both scare cards to the JJ player.

im going to disagree, smooth calling here gives people a chance to see the turn card.. if he has an overpair, he could catch his card, or someone hits their flush and your set sucks .

push to protect your hand from chasers.

or just bet into the preflop raiser before he has a chance to bet the flop, it will confuse him into thinking you have a pair on the board and his overpair is good, he will probably reraise you and you can push on him then.
