gingerwizard is an unknown quantity at this point
Hey,

Ive been playing sngs for a bit and switched to stars from party to improve my ROI.

Having realised i'd left around $8 of my bankroll at party i decided to try my hand at NL 0.05/0.1 there. Increased my $8 to $30 playing my usual tight sng style and really enjoyed myself.

Decided to read some of the threads from this section of the forum and would like to ask a few questions about NL cash play and the differences between it and sng play.

Why do you guys heavily suggest Full buy ins as opposed to half buy ins?

I noticed a number of references to a tactic called 3-betting. What is this and when is it good to use. (i assume its raising a reraise but it seems to have tactical importance here.)

What is the optimal style of play? In sngs i play tight, save chips and pull the trigger around the bubble. With 100 buy ins am i looking to always play tight or is playing more aggressively (eg limping marginals and hoping to flop disguised monsters) a good idea?

Please give some advice.

Well I'm still a bit of a newb myself but I can answer some of these questions.

Full buyin's because you're getting much better odds to draw against opponents who have you covered, and also makes it easier to call shortstacks ai w/ hands like 1010 and JJ. You ALWAYS want to have your opponent covered, the more money you have before the hand, the more money you win from the hand, its as simple as that.

Both tight and aggressive play is optimal, especially in low stakes online nlhe. Position is even more important in ring games than sng's. Always try to see cheap flops if possible. Unless you know opponent is extremely agressive and will do all the betting for you even when you make a monster it is always advisable to bet your made hands and draws the same, or randomize both so that it is difficult to put you on a range of hands.
