I hated to lay this down based on the flop play...what do you guys think? I don't think 2 pair or a set normally would play this way at 50NL.

Only info I have on villain is he's 33/13...he showed one hand with K/Q sooted (no raise pre flop with it) and Q landed on flop...he played it very cautiously OOP on a safe board so he seems to play tight...but I only saw one hand of his.

What line whould you expect to see?

He slow-played the flop, grilled you on the turn and potted the river (although it's probably more akin to a make-up bet as this guy doesn't appear to capable of thinking along the lines of getting it all-in vs a wide range of worse hands.)

I guess I could see 99 or 22, but I'd expect to see atleast a min raise on the flop with the FD there. 77 seems like the most likely hand, but based on the one hand I saw, it seems like he'd lay that down to my pot bet on the flop. That's my problem....I don't normally see or expect a flopped set to play this way with a flush draw there.

It's a donk set line, but a set line nevertheless. You're done like dinner, imo.

But AJ-TJ raises the flop and QQ-AA could wait till the turn so I agree that this is a set or 8Ts. Either way your "AJ is smoked".

Obvious set line?

I would fold it maybe 50% of the time, re-raise the rest and see how it plays from there. Depends on the villian really. It's a much more obvious set line, and a terrible flop for AA in general.

Keep in mind though that your opp. raised on you on the flop 3X your cont. bet with the FD/SD out there. If you're up against a nit you can be pretty sure you're beat, but a looser player is just as likely chasing the flush or straight and trying to push you out. Mine didn't, atleast not on the flop. And at 50NL, I haven't often seen a slowplayed set with danger out there often at all.

DrSouthpaw,

You're vastly over-estimating the chances someone actually has a draw on a given board when it's heads-up to the flop.

Cheers!

True. I'm 100% positive that I'm playing too tight heads-up and that's surely a huge leak for me. Thanks for the advice.

EDIT: Fnord, I'm also very used to playing at much lower limits than you and I rarely see as many bluffs/semi-bluffs as I'm sure you're used to. The poker at 50NL seems very straight forward. That's why I was so surprised to not see a raise on the flop and I'm more likely to say he hit the turn rather than the flop.

I find at 25-50NL, the equation is :

1. Be agressive to project a laggy image.
2. make a hand
3. stack someone

Everyone seems to play ABC poker at these levels and the people that bluff, it's almost always obvious when they do.
The most profitable hands for me besides AA-KK-QQ-AK-QK are the mid pockets. It seems like players forget that you can have a trips without the board pairing.
