Ok so I've been playing a lot of poker lately after not playing for several months. Built up a bankroll to about $500 killing $10 full ring (I sucked at 6 max) and took a shot at $25 NL. I immediately went up about 7 buy ins and thought I must be a poker god. Now I realize I suck. I've been on a terrible run and my roll is down to $420. Def time to move back down to $10 NL.
Question for anyone who has moved back down after moving up is when do you move back up? I guess I'm planning on trying again if I get back over $500 and I'm playing well. I know 20 buy ins is a little thin but I felt comfortable at $25 (didn't feel like I was playing bad or scared, just getting smacked with some tough breaks) so is it worth a shot or should I just wait a little longer at $10?

20 buy-ins is pretty much the lower limit. Maybe build up to 25-30 buy-ins to give yourself more of a cushion. We all play better when we're comfortably rolled.

More importantly, congratulations on having the discipline to move down when you needed to. Just make sure you do it again if you hit another downswing.

I recently moved from 5nl to 10nl and had to move back down after a couple thousand hands. I had a bit of bad luck, and I lost a couple buyins adjusting to exactly what people are willing to stack off with at that level.

Yesterday I moved back down and I'll be staying there until I make back what I lost at 10nl and then I'll try again.

Moving down isn't that big a deal to me...I see it as going back to easier money for a short time while I tune my game.

Moving down does suck, indeed, but it is a great learning experience. Every single time I have moved up, I have had to move back down AT LEAST once. I think it took me three tries to go from 10NL to 25NL 15 months or so ago. Probably two tries from .5/1 to 1/2. I moved down from 2/4 last week after a -4k day.

It's part of the game and consider yourself lucky to have the discipline to do such a thing.

Thanks its good to hear some supportive things. Just played about 1500 hands at $10 for a whopping $.25 gain. Just running so bad. I think I'll watch some videos and read some articles again...get back to basics.
