First, let me say I am a noob. I've only been playing for less than a month and I've played fewer than 2,000 hands so far. I'm taking my time and trying to learn.

UTG ($5.12)
Preflop: Hero is SB with 4 , 4 . Hero posts a blind of $0.02.
UTG calls $0.04, MP calls $0.04, 1 fold, Hero (poster) completes, BB checks.
Flop: ($0.16) 6 , T , J (4 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG checks, MP checks.
Turn: ($0.16) 4 (4 players)
Hero bets $0.04, BB calls $0.04, UTG calls $0.04, MP calls $0.04.
River: ($0.32) 8 (4 players)
Hero bets $0.32, BB raises to $0.64, UTG folds, MP calls $0.64, Hero calls $0.32.
Final Pot: $2.24
Results in white below:
BB has 7s 5h (straight, eight high).
MP has Qc 9s (straight, queen high).
Hero has 4h 4d (three of a kind, fours).
Outcome: MP wins $2.24.

bet at least half of the pot on the turn, your opponent is getting great implied odds for a 4 cent call.
