Some ring game players get lucky; Q10 is golden to some players. A10 is a minimal hand to raise preflop of $2 is early position.

Yeah ATo is a minimum hand... For me too... But at this level I think it's better to raise $2 when you decide to play, too many limpers will follow if you only bet $1.
But I'm a pretty aggresive playertype... I want it to cost to join the games I play... But I agree ATo is the worst hand I will play (Well KJo in the same division)...

Personally I'd play ATo in late position with the same raise, if I thought I could isolate on 1-2 other players with worse hands, or similar ones. I wouldn't raise it or play it from an early seat, although I might be a little tempted by AT suited from mid position. You're just looking at too many bad situations with ATo... too many re-raises from real hands, or guys smooth calling with AQ, AK, AJ.
Given that you did play it, though, this is just bad luck. He got lucky and the board connected with his second card; if that hadn't happened, it was your pot. Getting away from trips with top kicker is next to impossible, so I don't really blame you for how you played it.

ATo is a very marginal hand to be raising preflop in early position, I'd be limping from here most of the time.
But what happened after that was no fault of your own, there was no way you could have had him on the boat.

Preflop action aside, I don't think you're gonna get away from this beat. You flopped the set with an ace? How are you gonna lay that down, or put your opponent on Q10? You overbet preflop, but if he called 2, he'd have called one, and you'd have still gone broke on the Flop. Even if he's got the boat, you've still got two outs... I just don't think you can avoid it. Maybe if you put him on QQ...

Raise the flop. There's a straight draw out there and you're doing nothing to protect against it.

You mean the revolver, sir?
Precisely.
