Well I can tell what your doing wrong right away, don't just post random hands where you fold preflop.

I'm confident nobody will be willing to help you if you post BLOCKOFTEXT.

All you have to do is look at the first one and there is a problem. You are being way too aggressive with poor starting hands. I only looked at the first one. You should never play that hand unless you limp from the big blind. Fold it in the small blind and everywhere else.

Go to the front page and review the starting hands. Also, play lower limits for a while if you can until you are comfortable playing tighter. It may seem boring at first but it's more fun than dropping $200.

I can't see ANY value of playing 94s UTG for an AI raise. If you get called, you're boned. If everyone folds, you get .35. Congrats?

Trim this down to key hands.

I read through about half of this.
You play too many hands and you go too far with them.
Quit calling with crap.
Quit raising with crap.
Quit pushing when the only hand that can call has you beat.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

No wonder you dropped $200 if you play some of those hands like that...

Read the starting hands poker strategy on the poker strategy part of this page. Invest some time memorising the hands and how to play them in what position, maybe even invest in a poker book.
Read through all the posts on this site, especially the hand histories and have a look at how other people play their hands. Learn how to bet (value bet, limps, raises etc).

Only after reading all of that would I then go back to playing with real money. Don't deviate from any plans you set (ie. if you tell yourself you will only play the starting hands labelled groups 0-7 on this site, only play those!). And definately dont play shit like 94s like that!

I'm new here but I've looked over a lot of the hands you did play, so I'll give you my two cents with specific examples relating to your play.

Based on what I saw, here are some of the basics that you really need to look into:

-Study the different starting hands and learn what hands you can play in general. More specifically, study what hands you want to raise with, what hands you can call a small raise with, what hands you need to fold when someone else makes a large raise, and how your position relates to all of these things, as well as the information you have about the raiser and other players. You are playing a lot of dead-end hands and occasionally folding a hand with post-flop opportunities. But you did show the ability to fold crap hands for a period of time and wait for something better, until you lost your patience.

-That being said, your post-flop play needs much more work than your pre-flop play. For one example, Ax suited can be played in many instances, but learn why you are not usually looking for a pair of Aces when you play A6s in a ring game, and why you have lost money doing so (HH#24).

-Learn about outs, learn about pot odds, and learn about the marriage of the two. A gutshot straight (one of your favorite draws) is not a very good one to spend money on in general, much less against an isolated opponent. Learn why chasing a gutshot is usually no good. Very few drawing hands are worth playing against a sole opponent who is clearly protecting a made-hand. I noticed two hands where you were drawing to some sort of straight, and when you didn't make the straight, you called a river bet on one with a low pair, and on another with nothing. Save this money for a hand where you can reasonably convince yourself you might see a return.

-Don't re-raise someone all-in preflop with 94s, unless you know exactly why you are doing it. Learn why. (HH #1)

-When you have 8h 10h and the flop comes K 6 10, no hearts, ask yourself whether or not it is indeed possible your isolated opponent has made a pair of Kings before calling his bets down to the river (HH#54). In this case your opponent did not make Kings and was on a draw, but either way you were not a favorite in this hand. You were beaten by 9-10, J10, Q10, K10, A10...not to mention Kx and other hands. When you saw the 9 on the turn you were romanced by the gutshot straight. You should have probably folded the flop... however, when your opponent showed strength on the turn you should have re-evaluated the hand instead of being drawn more into it. How did the 9 help him/her? As you can see, even if you made your straight on the river, it was the losing straight. Pay attention to more than just your own cards, and try to realize when you're drawing dead. But first, don't draw to gutshot straights anyway.

-Learn why slowplaying is dangerous and why you have lost money doing it (HH #29). Learn how and when to protect your hand. Learn how to snap your opponents pot odds. Don't play scared, don't be afraid to raise and re-raise hard when you need to. Don't try for a check-raise on the river against an opponent who is obviously not super interested in the hand (HH#37).

-HH#36 - You have an open ended straight draw and an overcard, good enough reason to call with two other people in the pot. It is super risky to semi-bluff bet this turn for a variety of reasons, but if you're going to do it, you need to be more aggressive to try and take the pot right there. It doesn't count that you are the one who comes out betting in this round if you place the same bet that you called on the flop. This only increases everyone's pot odds. On the other hand it was OK if you weren't trying to semi-bluff so much as set the tempo for your draw, but you were still potentially drawing dead already. If you bet aggressively and get called, watch out unless you improve. The river was even riskier to bluff because you didn't improve and you're looking at three possible semi/monster hands that will call if you bet. As posted above, don't bluff into the nuts. That said, the only chance you had of winning that pot was with a decent sized bet indicating you wanted to get paid off for the nut flush or a full house with a pp that hit a set, and even then you may be bluffing into the nuts. This representation may also be above the thinking level of your opponents in this particular game, and so may backfire. Regardless, as you can see, nobody was fended off by your fifty cent increase. Really, this is not the best hand for you to choose to try for a bluff or semi-bluff unless you have great reads on your opponents. Know your opponents and make your bluffs with precision.

-HH#35 - This is a good example to show how your position helped you here. Try to really understand position, and learn to play it.

-HH#33 - You decided to move up a limit. It's the first hand at the new table, you fold early. The hand finishes. Ponder the hand you just witnessed and compare the play to your reasonable self-assessment of poker experience. Stand up, go back to the lower limits (next time).

-HH#31 - Fold pre-flop. Post-flop, pay attention to more than your own cards.

-HH #29 - You are letting somebody else take control of your hand and allowing them the opportunity to draw to a flush or a straight (or other hands) at their preferred expense. You might think you are slowplaying, but this is not the time or the table. If the third heart comes, your opponent will often bet large whether he made the flush or not, forcing you to fold unless you have a read on him. Don't make it worth his while, raise and re-raise.

-HH#15 - You were correct in assessing that you were being sort-of bluffed. However not every hand can beat a bluff. Yours was one of those.

-HH#13 - You have gone on tilt. Haven't had any decent cards for a while and are pissed that when you finally get a playable hand it's raised more than you can afford pre-flop. It seems like they must have known you finally got something halfway worth seeing the flop for, and are trying to squeeze you out of it. How are they doing that? Well, you will show them by going all-in, and you will refuse to believe that anyone is raising with any one of the many legitimate hands worth raising preflop that destroy J10.

Here's your real problem: in a ring game, if you can't afford a standard raise with the chips you have left without getting pot-committed to throw in whatever chips are left after the flop, this does not mean that you should just go all-in preflop when you want to play one hand (unless its a high pp). It means that you should not be at the table anymore. When you're losing, something is going wrong. Maybe you can beat the players but you're in a horrible seat, maybe you're just not getting the cards, or maybe you're getting schooled and it stings your pride to admit it. Almost everybody has been here and done this at least once, if not 20 times, before they started improving their game, and even then it still happens from time to time. But eventually you have to realize that there really is no pride in getting smacked around and then asking for more. There is a slice of pride in standing up before you're taken for everything, and trying to learn from the experience.

HH#2 - did you not see the straight when you were raised? If you were trying to bluff the flush on the river, you needed to bluff a little harder and be pretty sure this guy would lay it down. What did you know about him? What did he know about you? If you thought your two pair was good you were not paying close enough attention.

HH#1 - I know you were on tilt at this point but that's why you needed to stop playing for a while.

Take the advice posted above and study places like this site. Get some books. You need to put time and effort into studying the game and teaching yourself. Realize that there there is no shortage of people in this world who have a head start on you. Don't expect to compete with all of them today.

I'll post more about the individual hands tomorrow, but for now, here is a great post aokrongly wrote that I think can really help you :

http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...pic.php?t=8435

Also, check out Section 3 in this post by DavSimon :

http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...pic.php?t=8202

btw - next time cut out the hands you weren't involved in so readers don't have to skim through lots of hand histories that are irrelavant.

smlame,

There is one way in which it's great to see this post. Reading FTR, it can sometimes seem that you're swimming in an ocean with a few small, frightened fish (mostly on the beginners page, or in hand histories getting rinsed by LAGGs) and a huge number of sharks of various sizes. But this cascade of hand histories proves beyond any doubt that there are still plenty of people out there who will continue to feed our habit and fill our pocket. Thanks

I read this far:

*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Yamaha48 [4h 9h]
Yamaha48: raises $6 to $6.25 and is all-in

Problem solved.

OMGOSH IT'S SUITED!

But in seriousness, you can't expect to do anything but leak money when you make this kind of play and I can at least say that you will improve beyond where you are now - somewhere like this will help you if you are willing.

Sidenote: Play your own game; the game you will learn to win with. Don't be sucked into a slugfest with the rest of the and just have patience.

I recommend http://www.pokertips.org/strategy/strategy.php as a good place to start.

This is solid advice.

Honestly, when I read through this last night I (almost) thought it was a joke. You need to take a few really big steps back and analyze your play. You need to tighten up big-time.

I don't mean to be a jerk when I say this, but why must you be an asshole and make a post like that? A guy comes here for help and he obviously needs it....and instead of helping him you make a post that says, "HAHA, I TAKE MONEYZ FROM PEOPLES LIK USEGUYS."

Seriously, that's not what FTR is about, bro. Never has been, never will. After 230 posts you should know that by now.

Tough love. There's no better way to make someone seriously evaluate their game than to call them a big >-}}}>. I didn't think the comment was too bad. I say that only because the comment was kinda true, and the thread starter probably knew it was coming.

As for you Smlame, I say that you asked what's wrong, and then the first hand you presented was a push with 49s. The second hand had you calling a good raise out of position with QTs, and then really hack the hand...

Dealt to Yamaha48 [Qs Ts]
ATLroller: folds
Yamaha48: calls $0.15
trupman1: raises $0.50 to $0.75
Yamaha48: calls $0.50 <---- Fold
*** FLOP *** [5d Ac Qc]
Yamaha48: bets $0.25 <---- Pot is $1.50. Don't min-probe bet. It's bad poker.
trupman1: calls $0.25 <---- Opponent is weak to the flop
*** TURN *** [5d Ac Qc] [Jh] <---- Uh oh, better be careful
Yamaha48: bets $0.25 <--- Your opponent has at least a straight draw. Bet more.
trupman1: raises $0.50 to $0.75 <---- Maybe a move against your weak ass 25¢ bet.
Yamaha48: calls $0.50 <---- Raise or fold. Calling is weak.
*** RIVER *** [5d Ac Qc Jh] [Tc]
Yamaha48: bets $0.75 <---- Good bet. Forces cheap showdown if you really want one
trupman1: calls $0.75
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Yamaha48: shows [Qs Ts] (two pair, Queens and Tens)
trupman1: shows [Th Kc] (a straight, Ten to Ace)

Worst thing here was the 25¢ bet on the flop. You either decide to represent, or you check. At higher levels this will NOT stand. You bet 1xBB into me after I raised 3xBB preflop and I'm going to come over the top of you on that 6xBB pot. You're lucky your opponent was stupid enough to allow that nonsense to go on. It is nonsense. Don't ever do it again. EVER. It accomplishes nothing. Actually, it does accomplish something. It tells your opponent you're old and weak.

Dealt to Yamaha48 [Jh Th]
ATLroller: calls $0.25
Yamaha48: calls $0.15
trupman1: checks
*** FLOP *** [Ks Ah 8d]
Yamaha48: checks
trupman1: checks
ATLroller: checks
*** TURN *** [Ks Ah 8d] [9d]
Yamaha48: checks
trupman1: checks
ATLroller: bets $0.75
Yamaha48: calls $0.75 <--- 50¢ pot. Loose call but ok. Let this go a lot. Not worth it.
trupman1: folds
*** RIVER *** [Ks Ah 8d 9d] [7h]
Yamaha48: bets $5.20 and is all-in <---- Nope. Check raise all day, or value bet.
ATLroller: folds

Dealt to Yamaha48 [7h 8s]
trupman1: calls $0.25
ATLroller: calls $0.15
Yamaha48: checks
*** FLOP *** [Td 5d 2h]
ATLroller: checks
Yamaha48: checks
trupman1: checks
*** TURN *** [Td 5d 2h] [3c]
ATLroller: checks
Yamaha48: checks
trupman1: bets $0.25
ATLroller: folds
Yamaha48: calls $0.25 <---- Fold
*** RIVER *** [Td 5d 2h 3c] [6s]
Yamaha48: bets $0.50 <---- If you're g0ing to represent, then REPRESENT.
trupman1: raises $2 to $2.50
Yamaha48: folds

Don't know what you were thinking here. If you wanna rep a made hand on the river, bet at least the pot amount. 50¢ is weak.

Dealt to Yamaha48 [Th Jd]
wiserdelux: raises $3 to $4
Yamaha48: raises $2.40 to $6.40 and is all-in

TJ is the BOMB jack! Nope. Fold immediately when raised to what amount by your opponent?.... 16xBB!. Think he has a hand better than TJ? I do.

Dealt to Yamaha48 [5c 6h]
bizzyb32: folds
schmuck: folds
wiserdelux: calls $0.50
Yamaha48: checks
*** FLOP *** [9h 2d 2s]
wiserdelux: checks
Yamaha48: checks
*** TURN *** [9h 2d 2s] [9s]
wiserdelux: checks
Yamaha48: checks
*** RIVER *** [9h 2d 2s 9s] [8s]
wiserdelux: bets $1
Yamaha48: calls $1 <---- WHAT! YOU HAVE NOTHING!

Why are you bluff calling an opponent to showdown a 6 high? Are you nuts? FOLD IT! Very very bad poker.

Dealt to Yamaha48 [8c 7s]
schmuck joins the table at seat #2
y lime 11: folds
y lime 11 leaves the table
Yamaha48: calls $0.50
bizzyb32: checks
*** FLOP *** [9h Js Ah]
Yamaha48: checks
bizzyb32: bets $2
Yamaha48: calls $2 <---- Fold
*** TURN *** [9h Js Ah] [Jd]
Yamaha48: checks
bizzyb32: bets $4
Yamaha48: calls $4 <---- I said fold
*** RIVER *** [9h Js Ah Jd] [9c]
BugsyWins joins the table at seat #1
Yamaha48: bets $2 <---- No don't bet. Fold.
bizzyb32: raises $11 to $13 <---- Told you
Yamaha48: folds <---- Thanks for listening
bizzyb32 collected $17.15

Dealt to Yamaha48 [Ad 6d] <---- This is your hand.
Yamaha48: raises $2 to $3 <---- Stop that. No implied odds.
bizzyb32: folds
y lime 11: calls $2.50
frenchy2894: calls $2
*** FLOP *** [8d Ts 4c]
y lime 11: checks
frenchy2894: checks
Yamaha48: checks <---- Ok we have weakness. Bet your ass off.
*** TURN *** [8d Ts 4c] [As]
y lime 11: checks
frenchy2894: bets $1
Yamaha48: calls $1
y lime 11: raises $1 to $2 <---- One guy repping your ace, another guy raising it.
frenchy2894: folds
Yamaha48: calls $1 <---- Fold. Too much heat.
*** RIVER *** [8d Ts 4c As] [7d]
frenchy2894 is sitting out
wiserdelux is connected
wiserdelux has returned
y lime 11: bets $3
Yamaha48: calls $3
*** SHOW DOWN ***
y lime 11: shows [Qd Ah] (a pair of Aces)

Don't raise aces with bad kickers. Things that call you have you beat or dominated. That's all for me.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

If I ever see a post like that I step up and say something right away. FTR isn't about knocking somebody down for bad play, and only knocking them down. FTR is an awesome place because of all of the great advice and help people give. If everyone made posts like, "OMG MAN U SUCKZORZ I EAT FISH LIK USE FOR DINNER" this place wouldn't be as cool as it is.

That said, I'm not saying his words weren't true......just saying that he could have offered up some advice to help the guy out a little bit, even while blasting him at the same time.

P.S. As I said in my original post, I thought this guy was just goofing off and posting a "funny post." His plays were really that bad. Hopefully he'll learn.

I only read like 10 hands cuz there are way too many. But some things you're doing wrong include:

Playing crap hands for raises pre flop regardless of position and i'm guessing without any read that says it's a good play.

Calling bets too big outside of your odds with gutshots.

The only 2 or 3 times i actually saw you make a hand, you just pushed all in 4-5$ into a 1$ pot instead of value betting. Everyone jsut folds every time.

Over valuing top pair no kicker. This hand has little to no value. Anyone calling bets has you beat.

Raising A6 off suit out of position pre flop? Ugh.

The push with 94!??!?!

Hand #45, you bluff into two opponents on a super draw heavy board, and get called by two. Then try to bluff again with a weak bet giving every draw in the book the right odds to call...Come on, this is just pissing money away. Why not just go all in except for 1 cent and then fold if someone re raises you.

Hand 48 your river raise is pointless. You have 2nd pair on a board where the highest card pairs up on the river. Your opponent bets into you. If your hand is good, you can call and show it down and take down the pot. If your hand is worse, (he's holding a K and has trips) he is going to reraise you! This is the case of only a better hand is calling, every time. A better hand is raising you hard. Why give away more money when you're going to take down the same pot if you're hand is best?

And probably the NUMBER ONE thing you're doing wrong: Why are you losing 200$ in one day? Do you have a 2000$ bank roll? Don't just sit down at a cash game table with little idea of how to play no limit and throw away money for a whole day. This isn't the way to learn how to play the game. Start at the low limits, pace yourself, and keep your bankroll in tact by risking 10% or less per day.

Right. In your case, actually, I think way less than 10%. A true beginner can easily have more than 10 losing sessions in a row, or at least 10 out of 15. 10% each time and you're done pretty quickly. I think that bankroll-rule is to account for downswings, bad beats and going on tilt: for break-even players and above. At this point you're just trying to learn to have regular winning sessions. When the time is right, i.e. - when you stop leaving the game with less than you brought, move the BR % up and start trying to really profit from your per-session investment.

After your losses the other day you might not even have a BR anymore. My advice is to play penny poker strictly as you learn more of the basics. When you're ready to move back up, don't forget that the game will change as you go...even though there's a lot of the same kind of players at the .05/.10 game as the .01./.02, the fact remains that the bigger the stacks to be nabbed, the greater the chance of a higher caliber player sitting down to nab them. And wait on the bonus whoring for when you get to the point where you won't blow your initial deposit away before you even clear the bonus.

Wow, i say you quit playing poker untill you learn how to play. STICK TO PLAY MONEY WHEN YOU SUCK (so you dont lose $200)
WTF were you doing calling a raise when you were playing the board????? you had like 76 and the board was like 9 2 9 2 8 and you called a bet?? even if it is the minimum bet you have no reason to call, i could see if you re raised to try to steal the pot but you are just giving money away. I say you start playing checkers

I only read about half of it, but my point is short and sweet.

-You call people with nothing - there is no reason to call someone with 6 high. Even a bluff beats you... which it did... you aren't Stu Ungar. Sorry

-You bet when obviously beat. You raise with no draw or made hand.

-You do not protect made hands

-You overbet when you have the best hand and just pray someone is going to call. There is no value betting

-You push with two random cards and hope for the best.

Some of this works in tournaments.... sometimes (like the AI blind steal)... but you are playing ring. The fact is, your AI with 4-9, your push with the nuts (a 6 dollar push into a 2.50 pot) and no protection of made hands... is gambling. These strategies may of worked before, but in the long run it won't. There isn't skill here, it's gambling.

Start reading the books. You need to turn this from gambling into skill. Till then... its just gambling....

Your style looks straight out of the play money tables. These are not a learning tool, please don't sit at play money tables in order to learn anything but the absolute basics of poker (which is a possibility)..

The fact that you have $200 to lose means that micro limits may have you calling off money which you do not care about, but this is not that attitude to have. 0.01/0.02 > play money. Do not jump in the deep end when you cannot swim.

Perhaps SnG's? you can at least limit losses from mistakes to your buy in, which can be as little as $1. If you have a fast connection and file sharing program, then it may even be worth looking for the "Poker for dummies" video as a first step in visual form - think Chris Moneymaker did this.

Another thing that may be a good tool is to open up a few tables at these kind of limits and watch. Don't note every bad play which pays off and believe that's the way to play, but look at the players who seem to always be in big pots, but otherwise don't seem to be doing much. Read through the other hand history posts on these forums and get an insight into how profitable players think about given situations, and acknowledge that you will be learning for a long time before you can match some of them - but also notice that you aren't just the worst possible player in the world, and that other people do make bad moves at bad times.

Conclusion: Don't be discouraged, just recognise that you need to be prepared to learn, and learn you shall.

I know your getting a lot of advice and it may be overwhelming, but if you really want to be a succesful player you have to know your mistakes and fix them. There are some posts in these topic that are very helpful. If you have questions about some of these people's comments, dont be afraid to ask, it can only help you.

I think your main problem is playing after the flop. From these hands it seems like you don't know what amount to bet. Once you apply pot odds, you can make bets that discourage action from hands that can draw to a better hand than yours. Here's an easy way to remember pot odds :

Honestly, I think that if you want to lay down poker, then lay it down - if you want to start doing well at poker, then start at the micro stakes and win there.

And don't think FTR a sea of sharks that just want your money - if FTR was really like that, you wouldn't get anything but people posting "Oh, you just got sucked out on, keep doing what you're doing". It's really a great bunch of poker-minded people.

if you want to stop playing, ok.

its not impossible for you to turn yourself around and be a winning player. but, this game isn't the same game you think it is. poker is a game primarily of folding and patience, not bluff bluff full house bluff quads.

If you keep playing, a good goal would be for you to start playing about 17% of your hands. That right there will instantly change you from a fish to someone at least in the shark family. So, less than 1 in 5 of your hands. 2 hands per time the big blind hits you. In order to do this, you will basically be playing all pocket pairs, ak/aq, kq and aj and suited connectors in position. if you don't know how to play any of these hands, do a search on the forum. look at how other people have played them before, and just get practice at seeing what works. Whether you play or not, good luck.
i betcha that i got something you ain't got, that's called courage, it don't come from no liquor bottle, it ain't scotch
