Hi all, this play just doesnt feel right. Would it be correct in higher limits where fold equity comes into play?
I believe i had a tight table image, and was trying to lag it up a bit (although i was out of pos, it was a tight table preflop). is this semi-bluff ok on the flop, or ami just thinking it is correct play cause i won the hand?

Nice play. Although i probably raise the flop slightly less. 9x is a bit extreme.

i believe if the table thought you were tight and you wanted to loosen up then you should have raised preflop to portray a stronger hand for when you were going to try to take it down on the flop. Then proceed to raise as you did on your flop.

i love your avatar bluff. nice.
is'nt the reason u loosen up is to go to showdown with crap starting hands, when they hit the board like this. Then u get good action there after.

well if i wanted to loosen my image for more calls i would be raising pre flop with a hand that i normally wouldnt raise with. but you're really not serving your purpose by limping into the pot and then betting at the flop in a situation where you are only semi bluffing. I'm just saying this is more of a semi bluff situation then an image changer

point taken bluff. i hadnt really thought about how i am going to loosen up my starting reqs (ie. am i going to limp into more flops, or raise more starting hands).
i surpose both avenues have their time and place.
thanks.

Even as a loose aggressive, playing 74s in early position is a little weak. Its a two gapper, so the flop you hit with it was literally the second best possible flop for you (next to just flopping the nut straight). The other 98/100 flops would have almost completely missed, and two pair with 74 is something that gets counterfeited by a board pair like half the time.
So long story short, in 100 hands you'll win one or two massive pots with a straight, a few stolen pots with post-flop aggression, and the other 90 will be lost bets. You'd probably lose money in the long run.

Is something wrong with non-nut straight flops with this hand?

Sure you'd lose money in the long run if you played it every time, especially out of position without a raise. But if he's doing this for image, he doesn't really plan on making a big profit with the hand.
Also, I don't know where you play, but I win more than 8% of the pots that I raise preflop whether or not I hit a flop. You severely underrate aggression.
Lastly, maybe you didn't know 7,4 was the big "look at me I'm bluffing with 7,4" hand around this forum. They even named it.
Also, to the OP, I think lagging those stakes is a fundamental mistake. I'm not even sure if LAG can win there, I'd like to hear from one of our resident LAGs...rippy, rondavu?
