Turn bet was too weak, I think. I'm thinking it should have been more like $5. Thoughts? I have no explanation for the river call, except for thinking "could he really have stayed in with that?!" which is a leak I thought I'd fixed...

Well, if you made a bigger turn bet and he still called your commited to call the river anyway. I think it's more likely he slowplayed a set or AK then 89s, esp. UTG.
Then again, not much supprises me online lowlimit.

I'm ok with paying off a set here, I think. Given the preflop, isn't KJ/T/9 just about as likely as AK (if not more likely)?

I agree, I think you should have bet about 5 on the turn. It makes your river call easier and gives him worse odds if he's on the straight draw.
