0.05/0.1 NL max buyin $5

i raised to 5 BB ($0.50) and got 3 callers.

the flop:

i'm in MP.. first to act bets around 1/4 of the pot ($0.60). i raise to $1.20 for info (whats the correct amount to raise here do you think?). i'm reraised to $2.40 and it folds back to me.

My read: the guy that raised me is big stacked so could be trying to push me around.. theres already enough money going into this pot for him to be satisfied if he's holding the flush, i would expect him to try and milk it a bit if he's got the flush... so i think maybe AJ is possible, and i have a K high draw to the flush...

this is my first hand at the table so i have no reads on the players style at all.

whats the correct move?
villain goes AI
i call with a set (i have him owned)
i win pot
villain: **** this, this site is bullshit, ******* rigged, suck out ****

Well, let's take a look at the flop. You've got somebody who just bet a piddly little amount into a $2.00 pot. I'd reraise to the pot, or if not that, at least $1.60, to see where I am. Here's where you're going to have to just kind of "sense" what your opponent's got by how long it takes him to act. Some calls mean "I'm drawing to the ace high flush" and some calls mean "I've already got the ace high flush. come to momma." To me, I'd say in this situation, it'd be the former, trying to semibluff. After all, in reaction to a piddly little bet, you reraised to the size of a barely larger piddly little bet. I call his reraise, since I have position on him. If he checks to me on the turn, I'll check behind. As far as the river, if it gets checked to me and a club comes, I'm betting out, 1/2 the pot. If it doesn't come and it's still checked to me, I'm still betting out half the pot. If I get reraised, well, then I know I'm beat. If the guy bets more than 3/4's the pot on the river, then I fold...painfully.

Helpful? Confusing? Feel free to ask questions.

ok.. my raise on the flop was a big question for me so thanks for that one.. i did think that it probably should have been a bit more but i was tentative with it being the first hand and no reads..

for the guy that reraised me.. i didnt like to call because like you said i felt he would probably be drawing and i rather make him pay.. if he has the Nut flush then why would he raise?? he'd be happy to let me keep betting into him. So either drawing or a weaker flush.. so either i'm beating him or drawing to better anyway..

I raised him AI.. he called..

he was semibluffing the A and doubled me up

Don't minraise for info. Every opponent is going to just call. Also, you got your info, so fold unless opponent is really bad and aggro.

i agree with ensign..don't be afraid to bet the pot..especially with position on someone. also, like he said throw out a good bet on the river if checked to regardless..if he calls n has u beat oh well, if he goes over the top on you then you know he's got you, and if he folds, great.

Greedo017 is on a distinguished road
in your shoes, i'm pushing there. at higher stakes, i'm not. in a 5 dollar buy-in game i think more often than not he doesn't have the flush and pushing is good.
