What would you do here? I figured, since this was the first hand I played here, I'd be more likely to get a call by shoving all-in, rather than raising to say $8 or something.

Make it about $4. Going all in is a pretty terrible play, you're definatly not maximizing value. You got lucky some idiot called you with 55.

At my stakes I might just push. I doubt theres many who will call it at 50NL though. I dont think saying you have 72 is +EV either. If you want to say anything say TT or JJ and maybe QQ will call you.

I probably make it $5 preflop and bet any flop $3.75 ish

I'd make it $4 or $5 to go and see what happens from there. Obviously a CB will be in order on the flop.
